as far as metal bands that appeal to teens go, they were pretty fucking good and their early stuff still holds up

that said, laiho was bodom: image, personality, voice, songwriting, guitar chops, flashy soloing, everything. i dont care if anyone thinks thats unfair. fuckin RIP :[

damn, RIP. I never got heavy into COB, but I always liked Follow the Reaper and respected his talent.

I saw Steve Vai on my 17th birthday, and with me was a friend whose dad was in the radio business. So he was able to get us aftershow passes for meeting and autographs. One of the things we had him sign was that month's issue of Guitar World, which featured him, Wylde, and Laiho (https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/x3sAAOSw1IVbw5BB/s-l400.jpg). I then got it custom framed with the signed ticket and the aftershow pass, with Vai's logo cut out at the top. To this day it hangs at the front of my music room.

Gonna listen to FTR and appreciate that memorabilia a little more now.

Regarding the effect of Children of Bodom and in turn Laiho, I remember one day when I took the bus to go downtown, and came across a girl blasting her headphones with "Red Light in My Eyes, Part 2".

Right after the neoclassical keyboard part halfway and as the band shredded onward, she smiled instantaneously.

"this road is gonna kill me" (excerpt line out of CoB's final album)

I know he's alluded to his mortality before that song, but shit - I was hoping he was just being in 'character' with the Wild Child persona...

don't know if Bodom after Midnight was gonna be all that big of a stylistic triumph, especially with Warmen off the keys - but this is abrupt and jarring to me...

I don't think he'd want to RIP, more like RIW, but I hope it's inner peace anyway (assuming there's an afterlife)... we lose another great talent. dude was my age, too, I never knew that... dammit yet another 'hero' gone =/

Damn. Rest in peace to him, 41 is way too young and he was ridiculously talented. I hope at least he is having an insane jam sesh right now upstairs with some of our other gone-too-soon musicians.

Also, in response to some of the other questions on here asking about the cause of death/etc it's probably best not speculate if we're not being told the explicit reason, but, usually when this is done by the family of the person who died it's either because of an overdose or suicide, sadly...I think a lot of people aren't appreciating just how much of an impact all of this lockdown bullshit is having upon so many of us, worldwide. Mentally it's totally destroyed me and I just have lost 3 of my friends in the past 4 or 5 weeks now, 1 who hung himself and 2 who overdosed (1 of them we know for sure was intentional) -- all because of the anguish they were dealing with from all of this fucking their lives up. I've had it bad enough being basically bankrupted and losing my business, I imagine it's gotta be even worse for musicians who truly live to play and rely upon it for income.
