Legitimately the first time I’ve heard that. Lol Just cause they’re slow?

No, because they play hyper polished "sludge" with no understanding of what makes the genre unique or interesting. They're shamefully boring and seem to revel in it.

@Gallantin: How're you really gonna put Primitive Man's sludge in quotes? Idk, these guys aren't any cleaner than something like Indian or Lord Mantis to my ear. You can definitely hear all the instruments but it doesn't sound sterile like direct to computer guitars or punched in drums. I feel like they have cleaned up some since Scorn but not to any particular detriment. What are some of your favorite sludge projects if this sucks so much?

If your best references are Indian and Lord Mantis, then yea, Primitive Man is primo "sludge" lmao

Good sludge is stuff like Grief, Toadliquor, Melvins, Greenmachine, Noothgrush, Thou, Corrupted, and so on

Also the new Skeletal Remains will most likely suck, but maybe they'll not have the worst production ever this time and it'll be good, who knows

you mentioned great sludge bands but somehow don't like this? production on some of those releases is a lot worse than this, even the debut has better quality than some

slow like grief, misanthropic like toadliquor, riffs like noothgrush, come on dude

Primitive Man has never written a riff in their life. Couldn't sludge their way out of a paper bag. Hell, Caustic is practically a late 2000s deathcore album. No, Primitive Man may know what good sludge is, but they have no idea what goes into making the genre good. They just take slow misanthropy and throw it into hyper polished guitar feedback and call it a day.

I enjoyed a lot Scorn tbf...Always felt the band more doomdeath than actually sludge. I dug Caustic a bit, but felt too repetitive.

btw Lord Mantis rules, but again...its a bdm and doom sludgy beast...not the classic sludge Gal mentioned.

I just mentioned those band to compare modern sludge production. Only bands that you mentioned that I haven’t heard are Toadliquor and Greenmachine, but that’s not even the point. This band is HARDLY hyper-polished. Idk, being a fan of those groups and stuff like it, I don’t see what’s to dislike about these guys.

Snox is a huge dork, no need to take him seriously.
