Hazy new Avalanches single2020-02-20 by Kirk Bowman CONTRIBUTOR | 28 Comments
|The Avalanches just dropped their first single since 2016's Wildflower. It samples tracks by Smokey Robinson and The Roches, and features Blood Orange on vocals.|
The version on Youtube linked above has a slightly longer outro than the version streaming on other services, with a choral section fading away over what sounds like Morse code. Morse code has been a common theme of this album rollout, used on their website and on recent billboards to tease the release of this single.
They included a description as well, officially announcing their new album:
"Sometimes we receive a message. Telling us our music has been there; through dark times, loneliness, loss.
There are no words to express how moving or profound this connection with you is.
Because the music was born out of such moments itself, and so it is felt, by those with open hearts, on the same wavelength it was first created.
Morse Code beamed and received by hearts and hearts alike.
Our new record is about such journeys, from darkness to light.
About life after (all kinds of) death. About the transcendent nature of music itself.
Every voice ever played on the radio over the last 100 years now exists in the stars; the transmissions of these singers are forever floating around out there, lost in the cosmos, endlessly travelling.
Tonight Smokey Robinson duets with Dev Hynes and The Roches.
Those spirits are out there.
We are each a tune, floating in space
And this one's for you."

didn't do much for me tbh
I hope Bad Day is on the album, that's a banger
Roches sample, nice.
Song is pleasant.
Still not a fan of "Avalanches (feat. singer(s))" though.
pretty great song, always down for more avalanches!
Is it as outdated, cookie cutter, and derivative as their entire last album or what
Digging: Oren Bloedow and Jennifer Charles - Convivencia
The last album had a couple of good cuts
Digging: Bambara - Stray
the last album was basically all good cuts
So much meh
so much good shit. i mean it can't compete with since i left you, but it's still a lot of fun and very catchy at times
since i left you is pretty overrated in its own right tbh
i like it but man they need to claw their way out of the 60s, the "neo"psychedelic flourishes are actively squandering really good material
Digging: Arthur Russell - Roulette
Those flourishes are the best part of their sound, you're crazy.
This song wasnt very good IMO.
Song is actually pretty good but that's entirely due to Blood Orange
Last album was brilliant and this is great as well.
ya Wildflower was truly groundbreaking, einstein big brain shit
You've made your incorrect opinion plenty known thx.
Mmmm, Not sure you get it quite yet
again idk why something needs to be groundbreaking. it was just a fun album with catchy choruses and dope samples.
been addicted to this song lately
It doesn't, and it isn't. Was a jab at him calling it "brilliant".
I done been jabbed
ur lucky i used my poking finger and not a knoife
skoop got goop'd
I love Since I Left You, and Wildflower had its moments (mainly Stepkids) but this is just meh
Digging: Goldfrapp - Seventh Tree
still think Subways and Sunshine are the best on Wildflower by far, and it's crazy the latter was added last minute cos it's the best song on the album (but that's the Avalanches for you lmao)
"Wildflower had its moments (mainly Stepkids)"
This song has grown on me so much lately, I think it's one of their best now
Been 3 days and contrib can't even embed the youtube vid right.
Your badge, sir.
sry did not notice that
No prob, gives me an excuse to listen to it again.
It's really growing on me.
