wishing him a speedy recovery
Digging: I Set My Friends On Fire - You Can't Spell Slaughter Without Laughter
how much worse can his voice really get at this point tho
damn that sucks, feel better soon Oli
Moron oldhead fans: "OLI, SCREAM!"
Also Oli: ruptures vocal cord
Digging: Attalus - Into the Sea
But on the real... this is fucking awful.
finally a sign that god exists
@Hell oof you went there
No wonder the dude doesn’t raise his voice anymore and is leaning towards pop
guess he blew out his voice on all those pop choruses
@Sowing: Nah, it was due to that deathcore medley everyone pushed him to do every god damn night + his voice already being tired due to constant touring.
Should have asked 76 year old Dustin Kensrue how he screams every night without damage.
Dude needs lessons from Daryl Palumbo.
Dustin learned how to scream coarsely without being coarse on his chords. Oli can too.
"People forget the vocal chords are a muscle, a muscle that can be compromised by not just exertion but the elements/conditions etc. Screaming when done correctly is actually less strain on the voice than singing in your top octaves (in fact if I’m trying to go easy"
Found this little ditty he used in response to someone on Twitter.
this is why you gotta actually learn how to safely scream
CAN YOU FEEL MY CHORDS
Digging: Way Out West - Intensify
yeah I want to scream but I've never figured it out so I just don't do it anymore.
The kind of thread where Mason is the only one talking sense. Jk, I’m not trying to come at you Agent, just agreeing with everything you said here
Yeah it's wild, I'm used to being the one who's wrong about everything.
Still are, kid.
I mean you ignored all photographic evidence proving I'm not an alt so... shrugs
Shhh you've seen it six
you should post the pic
its not relevant to this convo, sorry
you brought it up tho
Yeah, but I'd rather not make this thread about myself.
He barely sings live anyways
Just needa press the space bar on the laptop for EDM.

Thaaaaaaaaat’s a shame...
Digging: Ghost Iris - Apple Of Discord
It's really cuz they read my review
@Treb: That would be pretty fucking funny
Lol, Treb. No one reads your reviews. xD
If the vocal chords are a muscle how come I can't train them at the gym huh?
cause u a wimp
cuz u derpin while we djentin
He’s had years to get a proper vocal coach to prevent this from happening.
He has blew his vocals on every album cycle tour, dude needs to stop abusing his voice.
Digging: Faith No More - King for a Day... Fool for a Lifetime
He blew his voice out one too many times and he screams through his throat. You have a limited shelf life when you scream through your throat or fry screams. Also, having a screaming coach will exponentially improve the strength of your screams and help people who struggle to figure out how to scream through their diaphragm and stomach to learn how to finally do it for the first time. Oli is a cheeky bastard and wants money.
Oli could still scream if he wasn't fucking stupid with carelessly screaming his throat out, but BMTH imo hasn't been worth shit live since That's the Spirit came out.
Digging: Dip - I'll Slip Into the Inner Light
I'm one of those fans that's still holding on, so this burns harder for me.
Both him and M. Shadows are f*cking up their voices due to wrong singing techniques. I hope he'll recover, but seriously, he should have started taking lessons from a vocal coach a long time ago.
that's sad. Hope he recovers, but let's be honest, he has been suffering from singing the wrong way for a while. He should've seen that coming
I remember at one point i thought i didn't need technique because i thought it'd fuck with how emotional my vocals would sound and all the most emotive vocalists I liked had next to no actual technique. but then my voice started hurting after practicing screams regularly, so i just quit doing them and have since stuck to cleans.
I'm a singer too. I use scream and growls in all the bands I sing in (a melodeath project, a Lamb of God cover band, and a Groove metal project). I don't have problems when it comes to screaming, I'm still getting used to mastering the growl technique properly. The best thing to do is avoiding to overdo, singing with a proper microphone and amplification, stopping as soon as u fell pain, drinking a lot of water and avoiding putting excessive diaphragmatic pression in your vocals. That said, the post-hardcore way o screaming is particularly wearisome
Jon Mess could give him a few tips
I can scream, but I cannot sing for shit
Digging: Chapel (Rise) - Sunday Brunch
yeah I'm the opposite, I used to be able to run through the first half of "The Poison" from BFMV without a hitch, cleans and screams when I still tried to practice them. Screams started hurting after a while so I just quit and stuck with cleans.
Couldn't afford a vocal coach either, so I decided I might as well cut that out of my routine while I'm still young.
There's always time to learn how to scream, but once you've damaged your vocal chords, you're doomed. So you did the correct choice IMO, eventually you can always learn one day
Yeah, I've really had no issues since. But I've also been a lot less active with my voice in general, I went as balls out as I could manage at the one show I did a year ago with some shitty local band without a drummer but since then I've just restrained myself a lot more to keep myself safe.
What I've considered is just playing it as safe as possible during future shows without sacrificing quality and saving the more emotive performances for the studio.
That's the right thing to do! Professional singers act exactly like that. Also, the level of stress your vocal apparatus can bear depends from the number of shows you play in a certain amount of time, without letting it the time to recover. That's to say, if you play one show in a month, you can go a bit more balls out, if you have two shows a week or more, you have to play it safe. Btw, what kind of stuff do you usually sing?
typically more alt-rocky stuff at this point. I'm wanting to move more in an almost pop-punk direction, but closer to Taking Back Sunday than New Found Glory.
That's part of why I thought singing with perfect technique would fuck with the emotive element, because I remember guys like Bert McCracken used to sound so raw and unfiltered back in the day.
Interesting. I'm not really an expert of the genre, but I know TBS. How's your band called?
Currently I'm working on a solo project (name won't be revealed for a while here) and I've got some potential side stuff going on as well that would allow me to push myself a little harder, hopefully without getting as bad as Oli when it comes to shit like this.
I've considered taking some screaming lessons for a heavier side gig, and I know some people personally that could try and help me out with that as well. I don't want to be a one trick pony, even if these little projects I do on the side don't really amount to much beyond me experimenting, that's the fun of it. Knowing I can try to do more than the usual alt rock/pop punk guy.
well, I'm looking forward to the day when I get the chance to listen to your stuff! I'm really curious about it!
*stands up bravely*
i will fill in for oliver
fucking sucks, the rehab on that procedure is total fucking ass.
what happened to GhostV3
soooooo what happened
bird is dead
Really doubt this is because of a 5 minute medley in a 1 1/2 hour set. Much more likely it's because he's doing entire sets of singing when his singing technique is incredibly unhealthy and pretty much built off of tightening his throat with no diaphragmatic support.
They should continue instrumental bro
Didn’t Oli improve his singing technique at some point? Or did he back to the bad one?
Digging: Children of Bodom - Hexed
With examples like this and Sonny Moore, all it does it make it very apparent how many of those scene metalcore bands never utilized proper harsh vocal techniques, because most of them either broke up or make alt rock now
To be honest, I don't blame them. Perhaps they also thought "proper" harsh vocals would fuck with the emotional response of their music.
You'd think after years of ripping his throat apart and getting a reputation of being awful live he'd go get a coach to sort this shit.
"I remember at one point i thought i didn't need technique because i thought it'd fuck with how emotional my vocals would sound"
What? That's something I still worry about... "are my vocals emotional enough?"
@Ground: yeah and I hope once he finally figures this shit out that he can sound closer to how he does in studio.
i'm not sure if i should say what or lol
oh! i know
oh! i know
I wonder what Deathbat singing sounds like. I bet it ain't pleasant.
i mean i don't like my voice but everyone who saw me perform live tried to posture and say i was the best singer of the night.
Based off their last album I think permanent damage has already happened.
Agent you're so similar to Snide it's kind of disturbing, whenever you announce this music project of yours PLEASE do not start dropping half-baked LP's every 2 weeks
Until he finally does I'll be playing Snide's tie-in computer game based on the tie-in movie to his double disc space opera.
"Until he finally does I'll be playing Snides tie-in computer game based on the tie-in movie to his double disc space opera."
as will I, all the while grievously self-harming :D
The Snideverse ARG is awesome
@Sweeney: lol, even Cassy (the one he did the fake marriage with) saw similarities so it makes sense. But I won't be dropping LP's that quick tbh, the plan is one album in either late 2019 or early 2020, then a short set of EP's later in 2020 or maybe 2021, then fuck if I know.
I wasn't around for the fake marriage, or if i was i've forgotten what happened. it's good you have a plan, but i always found releasing stuff when you are totally happy with it is best, even if that means releasing nothing for a long time. I've been working on an EP for the best part of 2 years, I won't be releasing any part of it until I'm 100% certain it's as good as it can be.
Yeah it was before my time but I heard about it here, and Snide mentioned it when we chilled out together so there's that. And yeah, I'll see what happens with this project.
"Agent you're so similar to Snide it's kind of disturbing"
Dude! I was thinking the same thing!
Lmao even Snide's fake wife thought I was similar to Snide
I’m still not convinced it’s not snide who is just using someone’s identity that he knows to post here because snide is actually insane
Considering I didn't even really get in touch with him until MONTHS later, after he had already left in August or so... never mind that my IP is different.
i mean he is pre much snide w/o the personality so
literally anyone who likes mainstream music is snide to you guys tho
Nah, there’s a lot more weird shitposting and edgy fringe opinions that you have to hit for the status quo to be compared tbh
Considering that dude put Alexisonfire and Metallica on the same list as Imagine Dragons for his "least favorite artists" I'm pretty sure I'm not him.
Agent, how do you feel about Black Veil Brides? (this will settle the matter once and for all...)
They're ok, nothing to get too excited about.
definitely not Snide, he would have burst into flames at that comment
Shit I don't even have any tattoos while he's pretty much covered in them.
Agents social media pictures are pretty low quality. Obviously it's Snide.
maybe... they're BOTH Snide :O
If Agent isn't Snide he's probably his long lost brother. We need a DNA test.
Maybe Snide is a character, like a shitty emo James Bond, and not a person. And Agent is the Roger Moore to the original Sean Connery.
oli's screams started sounding raspy as fuck on sempiternal. thought him fucking up his voice was the whole reason they went pop on TTS?
what exactly DID happen to Snide? he told me he was kicked off the site, but others tell me he asked to be banned for some reason
This thread is Lit.
He tells me that he left because the negativity was taking a toll on his mental health and that he asked to be banned.
