New Static-X album

2018-10-23 by DatsNotDaMetulz | 35 Comments
The surviving members of the original Wisconsin Death Trip lineup of Static-X (Tony Campos, Koichi Fukufa and Ken Jay) have reunited to release a new Static-X album in 2019.

The album, entitled Project Regeneration, has been made by using Wayne Static's final vocal and musical recordings before his death in 2014. A number of guest vocalists are anticipated to appear on the album to finish the songs, including Burton C. Bell, Al Jourgensen, Dez Fafara, David Draiman and more, although these have yet to be confirmed.

It has also been announced by Tony Campos, the sole owner of the Static-X brand after Wayne Static and Tera Wray's deaths, that the band will tour in support of the album. It is not known who will perform vocals.

This will probably suck but depending on who does the vocals for the tour I will try to catch them.

I like that they're making sure people get to hear Wayne's final recordings. As long as this tour is just a one-off (will allow if it extends globally) but if they milk it then I'll be less sure.

I only ever liked Start A War by these dudes, but I would still be interested in going to a show depending on the line-up

First four albums were solid (if you ignore the presence of Tripp on albums 2 and 3). I think this will lean more on the WDT sound.

I thought Tony and Wayne were sworn enemies, unless I'm mistaken. Good to see he's back for this.

"I thought Tony and Wayne were sworn enemies"

I mean if you were kinda close with the guy for about 10 years, it'd be tough to sever feelings cuz one got a hothead & hot wife.

Actually Tony Campos is the X in Static-X. His stage name in other bands is Maldito X.

I guess I will always have a soft spot for them, they were one of my favorite bands back in 2001 - 2003. I will be checking this out because of nostalgia, I only hope it's better than the last album they released (Cult of Static), which is easily their worst album.

Is this really needed in 2019

Post-Start A War they started moving away from their industrial influences into more of a groove metal sound which didn't really work for them. Seeing as it's 20 years since WDT, the WDT lineup is finishing it, and it has a nod to WDT in the artwork, I think it's safe to say they're returning to that sound.

this doesn’t sit right with me. wayne is dead, he and tony were not friends prior to his death, this seems like a senseless cash grab to me

Tony may have fought with him but he sees the truth now. He's always loved Wayne as a brother. It's been a few years after his death so no this isn't a damn cash grab.
Also I saw the previews and the music sounds stellar. Can't please everyone omg...

My view is that if this is just to create a positive closing chapter for the band then OK go for it, but it's gonna have an expiry date and if they carry on past that then they've outlived any goodwill I'll have towards it.
