They should just release a vocal track of Gregg Graffin saying "I told you everything you need to know about the current state of the world 25 years ago."

A pseudo-cover of Everybody Needs Somebody to Love through an Offspring filter isn't what I wanted to hear I'm afraid. True North was almost too good to be true, I really hope this song is the bottom of the barrel for the new one

Musically OK. But the concept is lame.

I liked the song and while the lyrics weren't particularly smart, there were some nice lines here and there (''We've got shiny new devices for old impulses'' was one of them)

Aside from a couple of clever lines, this song was lazy and stale. This band hasn’t been relevant in a long time, and have clearly run out of ideas.

I do appreciate the fact it upsets alt-right trolls so much though. Not that upsetting them is particularly hard, they get so offended so easily (which is ironic if you think about it).

Their last album was perfectly solid Danred. I wouldn't mind a bit if they gave up the new stuff and just toured though.

True North has some of my favorite BR songs of all time, really some of the hardest bangers since the 80s in there imo. The stuff from Process onwards rules hard in general

Dissent and Maps are fairly mediocre, imo. Not their worst but mediocre.

The mid-way switch up in the song really salvages it. But it's still pretty weak overall. Glad to see they are sticking with the short and to the point song lengths of True North!

"Dissent and Maps are fairly mediocre, imo. Not their worst but mediocre."
They are the weakest ones of this period agreed. But I think there are great gems in both. Off the top of my head I'd say for example Dearly Beloved, Scrutiny, Only Rain, The Praid and Pallor. To name two from each

Oh, man if you just had Billie Joe Armstrong sing over this instrumental and told me it was a Green Day song, I'd believe it. I'm hoping this isn't how the rest of their new album sounds.

Only rain is class lyrically and musically.

It's really just the first verse of this song that sounds so derivative, but it does not inspire confidence overall.

The problem with the Trump era is that you can't be clever about it because it's so absurd. The Onion pretty much gave up on doing Trump satire

I was very disappointed when I heard this song. I have been a fan since the 80’s but I will not be interested in their new music if this song is representative of what can be expected from their next album. They have recorded some amazing and epic songs over the years and I hope those days are not over.

As the world's biggest Bad Religion fan, I am disappointed with this. Perfectly fine with the lyrics and message, Brett and Greg were never gonna write the scathing criticisims of their younger years again, but I was hoping that the sound wouldn't be so neutered. There's no aggression or speed here in a song that probably calls for it. True North was a Bad Religion classic so here's hoping the rest of this album picks up compared to this.

But yeah their harmonies are indeed on-point here. They'll never lose their knack for that.

Bad Religion can do so much better, and it really sucks that their song lampooning alt-right dipshits winds up being so boring.

On the other hand, it still seems like it's got the trolls crawling out from under the woodwork to spam all of the comments you'd expect whenever someone points out that they're shit.

Yeah the song's not great but really anything that gets the alt-right riled up is cool with me, it's fucking hilarious to watch them get butthurt at exactly the same stuff that they say "triggered libs" get offended by.

Does anybody know who’s drumming for them? The lack of Brooks Wackerman really hurts this.

I actually don’t mind it, and I find it absolutely hilarious that so many fans are getting upset about Bad Religion being political. This seems like getting offended that water is wet.

As a huge fan of the band for years, this is REALLY cringey
Taking Brett's Twitter rants into account, none of these lyrics are surprising, but they're usually a bit more subtle about their liberal biases and here you're just getting smacked over the head with it
If the music was good I wouldn't care, but they sound old and tired. And the lyrics are basically a list of Leftist Cliches About Rightys

Lyrics aren't great but I always prefer to focus on the music and my problem here is that the music is a Green Day-like snoozefest. I'm happy that Brooks is in Sevenfold because he isn't restricted to playing punk anymore but I didn't want Bad Religion to suffer this way :/

I know I shouldn't be so pessimistic and wait for the album but I really don't like this song at all. It's like a generous 2.0 for me

To me it sounds like a Green Day and Offspring baby with some tired BR vocal melodies on top. The verses in the first half sound like a tamer take on American Idiot's t/t. Not to mention the Everybody Needs Somebody to Love chorus that rubs me the wrong way

I'll miss Wackerman for sure. But there is a video on YouTube of Miller playing American Jesus live with the band. He takes the most simple drum melody of all time and cranks it up to 11! I am hoping we get to see more of that wild drumming fury elsewhere on this new record

I've loved Bad Religion ever since I heard "Suffer" in my cousin's car... but this is just boring. A step backwards musically, two steps backwards with the new drummer, and some of the worst Bad Religion lyrics ever.

When your song designed for satire is so clunky and unintentionally hilarious it gets adopted as an anthem by their intended targets lol

Honestly though, I never thought I would see the day where a band that is entirely populist in message like Bad Religion is literally demeaning populism and propping up establishment ideology and talking points. TDS is real

Well while we're criticising Noodle's comment, he also misuses "turn it up to 11", which is a Spinal Tap reference to a volume knob going higher than it's supposed to. It doesn't really reference putting energy into a performance, it's purely a dumb joke about making things louder because louder = better.

how does everyone make such a big deal out of like 1x10^-6 % of our population that would identify as alt-right? I really dont understand, esp when most of those ppl online that you consider alt-right are literally trolling everyone just to get a ruse. tell you what, it's working for these trolls. ive even heard jewish people being called alt-right. the moral panic and """nazi-shaming""" is hilarious. they are such a minority you would do a much better service just ignoring this dumbass group. just retarded.

"Alt-right" itself is an overused and abused term to describe anybody to the right of Marx, and the guy who coined it (Spencer) is a giant LARPing socialist masquerading as a conservative. Spencer is no different from Alex Jones in that he's a provocateur meant to delegitimize and dismiss alternative ideologies through association (i.e., Jones' unhinged rant on Piers Morgan about gun control, which made gun owners look like nuts by proxy)

@Astral Abortis

I've seen the movie. I don't really see how the reference is "misused". Do you honestly believe that quotes and references can only be used in their original contexts?

If I wanted to jokingly say, "Boy, that escalated quickly. I mean, that really got out of hand fast." Can I only say it after a mass fight between new stations breaks out?
