both these tracks rule
Why the fuck is the leader of the Gangreen Gang replacing Murdoc. That’s my only question.
Digging: Movements - No Good Left To Give
Already liking this more than how Humanz started out.
2-D singing on every track, only necessary features, a short tracklist, two great singles, this is already shaping up to be infinitely better than Humanz.
Confirmation that PPG and Gorillaz share the same universe tho
was 11 supposed to be 'soul eye'
oh never mind it actually is spelled that way
"According to Albarn, the album will be "pretty much just me singing" and "very sort of in the world of 2-D", a different approach compared to the band's previous record Humanz, which featured several hip-hop and pop artists."
Digging: Two People - Second Body
Can't believe Ace from the Gangreen Gang taking over bass duties is canon. Wtf that is amazing.
Wow both songs are fantastic
Digging: Disclosure - Energy
Absolutely fabulous summer track
if you think Toondude should be skinned alive for that title
both tracks are bangers
First track is great. Not sure about the last record as I didn't listen to it. Heard bad stuff.
Digging: En Minor - When The Cold Truth Has Worn Its Miserable Welcome
Humility is solid, Lake Zurich isn't bad but kinda doesn't go anywhere.
I dig it hard. I have high hopes for this one. Hopefully it blows Humanz out of the water.
humility is good not amazing and lake zurich sucks.
nevermind lake zurich is a solid 3.2/5 after giving it a chance and not skipping around
Please be better than Humanz please be better than Humanz please be better than Humanz please be better than Humanz please be better than Humanz
Digging: Pelt - Ayahuasca
i dig both tracks
It's already better than humanz, because that dumpster fire didn't have two listenable songs on it. (That video is unuasually bad when compared to other gorillaz videos tho)
Lake Zurich is straight fire.
Humility is awesome.
Digging: Napalm Death - Throes of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism
According to Albarn, the album will be "pretty much just me singing" and "very sort of in the world of 2-D"
Exactly what I and many others wanted, very welcome news. Humility is fantastic and better than probably anything from Humanz, and Lake Zurich is fine.
Digging: Fleet Foxes - Shore
i mean i love Albarn and specially Gorillaz. All their stuff is great to me, even The Fall has some cute tunes, but i don't get people that just want a 2-D centric, few features Gorillaz album, like... The whole deal of the project was to collaborate with different artists and come up collectively with what every new the album would be like. Musically, the idea is Albarn working with OTHER people, otherwise why not just call it a solo album?
Digging: SAULT (R&B) - Untitled (Rise)
I mean mood-wise I feel like 2-D has always been pretty distinct from Albarn on Blur or solo-projects. Also, tracks like Lake Zurich would be totally out of place on any Damon Albarn solo LP. So judging on those two tracks, I'm expecting something that fits in the Gorillaz catalogue. (The collabs could be more on the production this time)
Not big on either of these tracks, though the "Humility" video is great. This album is supposedly going to have very few collabs, which will hopefully make for a more consistent record. I'm really struggling to appreciate Gorillaz' recent work lately. I yearn for the self-titled/Demon Days sounds.
Demon days will never be topped but I love humility for what it is
rabidfish I think there needs to be a balance. Humanz clearly had problems with its identity and flow, just too many ideas reliant on the talent of all the guest singers, and it was underwhelming especially given how strong the s/t, Demon Days, and Plastic Beach are. A new album being more focused with less people messing with it is just what is needed, and Albarn seems to understand that now given his statement.
Yea, i don't think having few guests is a bad idea, either, just that Humanz isn't all that different conceptually compared to their other records at all. Lots of features, lots of different genres and song-ideas that hardly attempt to be cohesive narrative or stylistically-wise. Gorillaz is track-by-track band, they've always been like that. But apparently only in Humanz that was an issue.
I mean, i know a lot of people that don't like Gorillaz exactly because of this, but seeing this argument used by people that liked the band's other records baffles me.
U know what the actual problem with Humanz is, imo? the production. It's flat, lifeless and boring and never brings out the best out of any track. Seeing them live has opened my eyes to this glaring issue that most don't bring up or just mention it. The songs themselves are pretty dope, and when played with actual instruments (specially real percussion and bass) they come out as more fresh and fun to listen to. I mean, it's still their weakest 'real' album, but people shit too much on it for the wrong reasons.
Humanz isn’t terrible and it follows the Gorillaz template but the songwriting is more sparse and forgettable. The production is part of it but most of the songs being like 30 seconds-3 minutes long while hardly even progressing is also the problem. Plastic Beach is a lot more progressive and ambitious while having a comparable amount of guest singers.
that sounds more like someone who actually listens to the band, most arguments i've read against Humanz is 'hurr durr too many guests, wurz 2-D'.
It sounds like The Now Now is to Humanz as The Fall was to Plastic Beach, and I am so down for that. I loved the fall and if this album is more focused than that record I'll be very happy.
Humility is dope, the perfect song to kick off summer. Lake Zurich is also dope if a little repetitive.
1st song is dirty balls
lake zurich is good tho
Eh. The vid for Humility is amusing but the song is bland as all fuck. Lake Zurich is much better, very hardcore 80s new wave vibe. Still waiting for the day this group puts out a song I like half as much as anything from their first two albums.
Digging: Blind Melon - Soup
Humility is an insta-classic
thats not very humble
Humility is fine, thin as rice paper but a nice summery vibe. Lake Izalith is a jam
Digging: Stereolab - Dots and Loops
Have you heard Hollywood and Idaho @pots?
there are both live versions up in the yutumbu and they are pretty nice too. This new album is pretty much the equivalent of The Fall to Humanz: Low steaks, just Albarn fucking about between gigs, but a little more produced this time. I'm totally down for it.
I think the idea is to think of it as a 2D solo album
the steaks are indeed low, Albarn is a veggo
Loving Humility. Helps that I'm enjoying a relaxed and sunny Sunday though. Perfect summer jam, brah
It's fucking winter here this album's gonna succ then
Humility is 2x better than every song on Humanz put together
Pretty weak songs, bad like Humanz
Digging: Marilyn Manson - We Are Chaos

no! but i will investigate
1/2 songs are great, better than the 1/6 success rate for the singles off humanz
I honestly don't get how anyone could listen to Humility and think anything more complimentary than "Yeah that would be inoffensive background music at the dentist's office."
First song is great but it worries me that Lake Zurich is purely instrumental. I'm concerned we're gonna get another "The Fall" and it'll just feel like mashed together b-sides and experimentation for the sake of noodling with toys.
it's shaping up to be sumin' like that, yea... The production value seems to be a lot more professional this time, tho it isn't very hard to up a frickin' Ipad.
