That's an easy criticism to make, but based on the two songs released from this, not really valid this time around. It seems like they are attempting to branch out a bit. An honestly their token sound is lovely enough to render their lack of progression moot at least for me.

They could have named it anything and it would have been better than 7.

Stripes. There, that's a better name.

lol fuck off guys, you're not even giving this album a chance. Sure, their albums have a similar sound, but each has a distinct vibe that's different from the other releases. This absolutely is the case with the two songs that have been released so far, which are outstanding

absolutely psyched for this album now, first single was sick and "Dive" is absolute gold.
sounds like a nice mix of depression cherry and bloom which are my two favorites. album of the year contender for me already.

I care about album names and naming your album its number in your discography reeks of laziness and pretty much outs how insipid it’s gonna be

titles and album art are all a part of the experience imo and it's the same with for example interpol s/ting their fourth album
i don't think it's a stupid thing, doesn't inherently ruin the album but it's still a bugbear

"The title, 7, itself is simply a number that represents our seventh record. We hoped its simplicity would encourage people to look inside. No title using words that we could find felt like an appropriate summation of the album."

I respect this reasoning honestly.

Exception - numbering or even better 'self-titling and numbering' from the start can be the best option of all.

See Zeppelin I to IV, instant legendary status. Caveat: only works if you are a great band and keep consistency throughout the numbered run.

but imagine touring and writing music for three years and then summarising that period of work and creativity by calling your album ‘7’
smacks of boredom and I bet the album is completely average, if this shit didn’t matter at least a little bit albums wouldn’t even have names

Almost wasn't bored shitless by this one. They do that sound well but when you've heard it a hundred times over by other and who mix it up with other genres and dynamics (and interesting vocals) beach house just gets weaker by comparison.
