Dream Machine dropped by label

2017-06-24 by CaliggyJack | 55 Comments
Following controversial statements on Feminism and immigration by members of the band, Castle Face Records has decided to drop Dream Machine and donate all proceeds from their recent album to charity. Band members recently did an interview in which they criticized Third-Wave Feminism and praised Trump's ban on Migrants and Illegal Immigrants, statements that have since divided their fanbase.

good. sounds like they deserved it.

"still don't agree on dropping bands just cuz u disagree with their stupid beliefs tbh"
I think it has less to do with that and more to do with the fact that record labels are companies and companies generally don't like being associated with dumb shit because it could hurt sales.

When "opinions" involve the rights of other humans I'd say that's more than enough reason to drop them.

I see it's not just their musical ideas that are stuck in the 1970s.

If I was ranting about feminism and immigrants at my workplace I'd get fired too. This was a good move by Castle Face imo.

I agree with the label's decision, any form of discrimination should not be tolerated.

At the same time, it's a pity, because Dream Machine have compromised the good work done on their debut album, in terms of good publicity.

Thought this was about a different band called Dream Machine. Glad to see its not. It would have been really strange if this news was about a bunch of british hippies that play spacey improvy psych jams.

"Speaking with Still In Rock, Doris revealed the two had moved to Europe after finding that "American musicians (hopefully not Europe too) are getting increasingly politically correct and it started getting on our nerves." Matthew added that despite the move, he still feels like a "red-blooded American. And just like the waves of refugees pouring into Europe I will also not be learning any new languages or culturally assimilating.""

Oh boy are they in for a shock. If there's one thing that unites all Europeans it's their disdain for ignorant Americans who don't bother to adapt or learn the language, and think they're better than everyone else.

I mean let's face it there's only one real reason why any psychedelic rock band would move to Amsterdam and it's not for the conservative ideology.

It probably won't hurt DM's bottom dollar because they'll probably get a shitton of Alt-Right followers from this.

Screw political correctness and everyone who advocates it. What happened to having an opinion and others respectfully disagreeing with it? Rappers and pop singers blast extremist leftist views all day long and no one says anything.

There's political correctness and then there's just being an asshole. These guys were being assholes. I hate that the definition of PC has gone from not using the N word or calling gay people slurs to "ugh these people won't let me be a dick without consequences, watch out for the PC police!" People are just using it as a buzzword so any time they get called out on being pieces of shit they can say people are being too PC.

I mean I'm not gonna state whether I agree with them or not, but anybody with a brain should know not to say that shit otherwise hellfire and brimstone will fall on them.

What they did was stupid and careless. They deserve what they get if they felt no consequences would happen by saying these things.

Jesus, I can't even go on a music review website without this bullshit causing issues. It's weird how this type of shit is all over the internet, but I don't experience any of it in my day to day life.

I would suggest for bands to avoid making any public political statements for the sake of shit like this not happening. Unless you're, like, an activist punk band or something. Then the ball is in your court.

I support their freedom of expression and largely agree with their viewpoint, but the people they're advocating against are exactly the kind of people who will make a big stink because they don't agree with the band's opinion and it will only harm them as it has.

Top link doesn't seem to work, btw.

EDIT: I just read the 2nd article to find out the foxy female in the band is Bosnian. I am a native Bosnian as well. Niiiice.

Like I was saying, I mostly share the same views as the band. After reading the 2nd article's quotations from the band there's honestly nothing super offensive about what they said...being critical of illegal aliens is justified as they have no place in a country they aren't legal residents of. Secondly, it was the female that criticized third-wave feminism which I find hilarious. Coming from a country torn apart by war & genocide (as she and I have) you will understand true humanitarian violations. There's none of that happening in the USA at this time.

The band just stepped on some fat toes in my opinion.

EDIT 2: I'm listening to their LP now and this intro song is actually stellar. I'm a sucker for good female-led psychedelic rock & prominent synth and organ. See ya in Hell.

I hope the band is aware that, as long as they're living in Amsterdam and not bothering to integrate or learn the language, the locals will be constantly mocking them and insulting them in Dutch and DM are not gonna have a clue what they're saying.

read the "terrible comments" they made.

i see nothing out of line here. they voiced their opinions, reasonable. Its not like they started ranting they were asked these questions by the interviewer. how do you suppose they should have responded then? should they have lied about what they thought to please people who don't agree with them?

fuck that label, thats some weak shit imo

Also lmao at her comments on women in bands writing songs about abortion or being sexually assaulted, calling it a "safe space mentality". As though none of those women have been sexually assaulted or gotten abortions. Shit, you don't even have to be a feminist to write songs with that subject matter. Sounds like she's the one that needs a safe space.

MATTHEW: "Playing a big festival in the United States of America is a great opportunity and a privilege and it's understandable why (SXSW) wouldn't want international acts diluting their draw by playing unauthorized shows. That's part of what they agree to to be able to come and play in the first place so if they break the rules then I see deportation as a fair and just consequence. It's just a threat anyways, instead of throwing a temper tantrum and acting as if they are entitled to come to the United States and do exactly as they please, they should just be cool about it and play unauthorized shows anyway."

ALSO MATTHEW: "So excited to be moving to Europe, but I will always consider myself a red-blooded American. And just like the waves of refugees pouring into Europe I will also not be learning any new languages or culturally assimilating. We're bringing Austin to Amsterdam."

Sooo people need to assimilate into your country but you don't need to do the same in others in which you're moving to? WTF is this guy talking about...

also, this guy didnt seem to be talking about this, but i think the sxsw thing has to do more with the fact that you are coming over here to play a certain amount of authorized shows on a visa. Which you may be getting paid for, so playing shows that haven't been approved means you're violating the terms of the visa and earning money that has not been approved/accounted for.

i would assume that the exact terms and conditions of your visa to come here for the shows must be stated and adhered to pretty much exactly, or sxsw/whatever company that may be involved could faces fines/penalties

i could be wrong, but i think its just like violating terms of a tourist or student visa, depending on the violation there are penalties, including deportation
