New Drake song

Drake finally dropped his new single, "Summer Sixteen" on OVO Sound Radio and he proceeded to play it five more times in a row. On the song he takes shots at Meek Mill, Chris Brown, and Barack Obama. The song ends with DJ Khaled yelling, "They don't want us to have a bigger pool than Kanye!"

Following his mix, Drake announced that his long-awaited album Views From the 6 would be out in April.

Look, it's another twenty-something year old American man finally giving The Smiths' biggest and well-received record a chance. And wow, it was deserving of my attention well before I was willing to give it. I was slightly worried that I wouldn't understand some of the material - that it may be just a tad too British for me to fully grasp it. This is not the case. Whether you consider the lyrical content to be humorous or depressing (both have been expressed almost equally, it seems) it grabs you. It's biting, sarcastic, over-the-top, genuine, and melodramatic, fitting perfectly with the happy-go-lucky on the surface but murky underneath music. These should not be singalongs, but they are just because they shouldn't be. And I think that was the point entirely.

"It means they suck.

He specifically said "frauds"... is he saying they are trying to pass off as good rap artists when they aren't? I think that's ridiculous, between them they've made some of the best rap records of the last decade. And I'm not even a big Lil Wayne fan.

This isn't Drake's strongest song, not by a long shot, but that doesn't change how strong his career has been ever since he broke through. I think it's odd that people don't like one track and all of a sudden we're calling Drake a fraud. Honestly I think the mainstream hate on here is sometimes a little ridiculous.

Drake has been very consistent his entire career. & I'm a fan of the general moody / atmoshpheric production of his music. & have enjoyed seeing his music progressively take a tad of a darker, aggressive & more confident turn.

That said, this first release off of views scares me just a bit. The expectations are through the roof right now. Despite all of the success of If You're Reading This It's Too Late, he's constantly maintained this "eh. thats just the mixtape. Views is the real thing you need to watch out for" attitude.

I mean honestly. Imagine spinning this album over and over. Is this a song you want to hear?
Honestly I'd much prefer that this song never see the light of day on the coming album. & would rather this just be a throw away promo / hype / reminder that the album is coming, track.

HOPEFULLY he'll damn near pull a Kendrick ala the release of "i" and we'll see that the song fits once the album comes out. But idk. Given the lyrical content it feels very buzz topic-y & like it won't age well or stand the test of time.
We shall see.
