System of a Down to embark on European tour

2014-11-24 by DatsNotDaMetulz | 32 Comments
System of a Down have announced a European "Wake Up the Souls" Tour in 2015, including their first ever performance in Armenia (a free show in Republic Square), to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, committed in 1915 by the Ottoman Empire.

The group, who all have Armenian parents (Shavo Odadjian himself was born in the capital Yerevan), have retained strong ties to the country of their ancestors and have long campaigned to raise awareness of the massacre, which is still overlooked in Turkey to this day.

my girlfriend is Armenian and had a bunch of ancestors killed during the genocide. She really wants to go to this. I'd love

yeah, real respect for the Armenian performance - it seems genuinely sincere. Although apart from that, does anyone still really care about SOAD/are they even any good anymore?

"They never released a terrible album"

I think Mezmerize and Hypnotize are kind of bad...

their first 3 are fun though, especially their s/t.

They've been on hiatus for years now, it's not like they've been putting out sub par albums every two years for way too long. They don't need to quit at all.

THEY NEED A NEW FUCKING ALBUM.

Not to be totally ignorant here, but what is the point in "raising awareness" for a massacre that happened to a small nation 100 years ago? What good will come from this?

Because the perpetrators of the genocide still haven't acknowledged it happened

Sounds like a pretty big deal to me and I don't know much about it which is probably a bad sign.

Why does the fact that it's a small nation matter either?

They have no reason to quit whatsoever even if they don't release a new album, none of their albums are terrible and I'm sure a lot of people want to see them live. I'll see them sometime next year. Hoping for a pretty tight show since Serj was terrible for his standards in 2011 and just about okay in 2013.
