New Nine Inch Nails record

2013-05-28 by Raul Stanciu STAFF | 66 Comments
Trent Reznor revealed that a brand new Nine Inch Nails record has been finished. He had worked on it with Atticus Ross and Alan Moulder for a year and it will be released later in 2013 through Columbia Records.

Here's Trent's message regarding the new effort:
“I’ve been less than honest about what I’ve really been up to lately. For the last year I’ve been secretly working non-stop with Atticus Ross and Alan Moulder on a new, full-length Nine Inch Nails record, which I am happy to say is finished and frankly fucking great. This is the real impetus and motivation behind the decision to assemble a new band and tour again. My forays into film, HTDA and other projects really stimulated me creatively and I decided to focus that energy on taking Nine Inch Nails to a new place. Here we go!”

UPDATE - According to Pitchfork Media, Adrian Belew is not a part of the touring band, he only contributed to the new record. This way, Robin Finck will probably take over the lead guitar duties once again. Source - http://pitchfork.com/news/49730-nine-inch-nails-new-album-finished-out-this-year-on-columbia-records/

Great news, but I don't quite understand why he signed with a record company after being so outspoken on independence. Did I miss something?

Surprised it's going to be released through Columbia instead of self-releasing it like he did with The Slip.

Because Reznor has released so much shit music in the past. Also he's hardly going to come out and say "I've resurrected NIN and I've been secretly working for the last year on an album and honestly it is just horrid, I hope you are all excited and buy 11 copies each."

The Slip was a good record. Don't understand the hate. I'm excited for this new release, as long as it's longer than The Slip then I'm happy. And not as bad as some of the stuff on The Fragile.

Uhm, I am pretty happy that Reznor is releasing another record, but seriously guys... don't judge a record you haven't heard a single second of just because the artist says that he likes it...?

NIN's been on a downward spiral for a bit. All this soundtrack work might have given Reznor the confidence he constantly talks about lacking in interviews, but if The Slip, Ghosts and the somewhat mellow HTDA is anything to go by, this is probably going to be another emotion-lacking Year Zero type record with some extra atmospheric attention. To me the Slip and Ghosts were not the NIN we once knew. That's why they were given out for free. Don't want another one of them.
When Reznor says 'fucking great', something tells me he is driven to say it because of his employee relations and ability to combine efforts with Atticus and the others - rather than with an objective view of his musical product.
Oh, surprised no Sputnik asshole has come in with "STOKED".
