R.I.P. Bobby Johnston

2012-10-20 by Panoptic | 48 Comments
Bobby Johnston (better known as Bobby Load) from the Miami underground punk legends "LOAD"
passed today. According to friends and The Miami News Time
"The frontman for the decades-running act Load, he died this morning in hospice at
Jackson North Medical Center due to complications from alcoholism."

Bobby had been hospitalized for weeks and the death of the 42 year old frontman was expected
by his immediate family and best friends. These are really sad news for the punk community.

Rest in peace Bobby Load, 1970-2012.

Everyone in some sense should anticipate their own demise as well as the demise of those they hold dear. It is only natural to be conscious of death's presence.

RIP I hope he died without regret

@Eclecticist: I am saying it's fucked up that his family and friends were anticipating his death because he was an alcoholic.

Captain North

No, his death was expected because he'd been in hospital for months, clearly there were serious complications and the doctors had probably told them to expect it.

This are indeed sad news for the punk community. Bobby was one of the best vocalists in the history of punk.

Are you for real?

If this band is so legendary then why does it not have an album in the database, at the very least?

Obviously the site shouldn't be flooded with uber obscure band that like 3 people have heard of, but the relevant stuff should be here, no?
Specially for a site that places strong emphasis on Non-mainstream acts(if these guys weren't mainstream, i assume they weren't.)

Yes.

They are not ยท"so legendary" they were an extremely obscure punk group from the 80's and 90's that
became legendary inside the underground punk sub-culture because of their euphoric performances and
traditional songwriting. Ask a punk fan from Florida about LOAD and he will tell you a 10 page-long
story.

Obviously the site shouldn't be flooded with uber obscure band that like 3 people have heard of, but
the relevant stuff should be here, no?

Yes, I was surprised to see that LOAD wa not in the database. I completely agree.

Specially for a site that places strong emphasis on Non-mainstream acts(if these guys weren't
mainstream, i assume they weren't.)

Sputnik doesn't places emphasis on non-mainstream bands/artists. That is up to the users. There are
lots of obscure artists on sputnik? Yes. But that doesn't means the site is centered around them.
Just look at the features. If this site focused on non-mainstream bands I suppose Anberlin,
Sylosys, and Wintersun shouldn't be there. Right? I'm not going to keep debating (though), RIP.

Well before i joined this site someone informed that this placed put a stronger emphasis on more obscure-ish acts(than other websites, at least), so that's why i came here.

Of course i'm not saying they shouldn't pay attention to mainstream acts, or that they don't.

"So legendary" was a bad choice of words, true.

But anyway yeah, no point in debating

Sputnik is pretty much metal / rock / alt & indie centered. There's some hip-hop as well but metal & indie are given major emphasis while Jazz, psych / folk are more than often forgotten. Talking about punk.. Where's Swankers, Red Kross, Broken Bones, D.O.A., Black Uniforms, The Fall, No Talk, Sluggo, The Discocks, Misery?. I know what I'm talking about when I say sputnik is not the be-all-end-all of Punk. Cheers :]

Stop complaining about the popularity of LOAD. As I said before - they were an underground punk band; they never had any press coverage or were promoted so it makes sense no one on any music-reviews site rates them much.

I'm not a hipster, from what I've heard a "hipster" is someone who refuses to conform and evades mainstream things in order to feel comfortable with himself.
