Kayo Dot Album Details

2009-07-05 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 49 Comments
According to Hydra Head Records, the Boston label will release Kayo Dot's fourth studio album later this year, with a fall release tentatively pencilled in. A European tour is being planned for September or October, as well as a US tour following the release.

According to the press statement: "The new music features another sonic shift in the ever-evolving sonic lexicon of Kayo Dot. Expect a more visceral rhythmic sound with overdriven chorus basses, cave-echoed horns, vocals and strings, tuned struck metal, and a purveying melodic darkness threaded delicately throughout the sound of the music.

"Once again, the record will be recorded by Randall Dunn (Sunn O))), Earth, Six Organs Of Admittance) who also recorded Kayo Dot's critically acclaimed Hydra Head release from 2008, Blue Lambency Downward. Expect the release of the new music on Hydra Head in Fall of 2009, with a September / October European tour and US tour to follow the album release!"

For the most part it would be considered new material, as they just took some old ideas for songs and totally revamped them and played them with a more "kayo dot sound". If they had released those songs back when Motw was still together it would have sounded significantly different.

Driver better slow down before he releases some serious bombage.

Yeah, old motW was still hanging on to a bit of death metal but after Kayo Dot it's a lot more mellow.

^^just bought shit tons of both of those things at Sears! And BLD was awesome if you take it the right way. It's supposed to be listened to the same way you'd listen to Stravisinsky. The album's strangely and hauntingly beautiful and I hope that Driver continues to impress me with the new album.

BLD is supposed to be anticlimactic. Taking that into consideration, it's a damn fine album.

Actually, I find BLD to have tons of climaxes, the climaxes just aren't in a traditional sense. Driver has actually stated that he wanted to make intense moments without chord ascension, being loud, or growling. And there are tons of moments where things get very intense on the album, mainly because there are things the band does and the way that they play that make the listener feel tense or trapped or even blissful(see Symmetrical Arizona). And thanks for the love Avirov.
