Pete Doherty is set to publish his journals next year.

The Babyshambles singer has signed a book deal with Orion Books, who are planning a March 2007 release date for his musings.

The publishing house announced the book will compile the 'best of' more than 20 journal volumes dating from 1999 to the present day. The book will reproduce the journals in their original form but condense them into a hardback volume.

According to a spokesperson from Orion the journals are: "The work of a serious artist, a complete antidote to anything you might read in a tabloid".

Going into detail, they publisher said: "The early books provide a fascinating and very entertaining picture of the young poet broke in London, serving popcorn at the Prince Charles Cinema. rumination on Britpop listening to Scott Walker but dreaming of a band infused with 'the spirit of Albion'."

Later books would show the singer's rise to fame.

Musing on his forthcoming status as a published author, Doherty explained: "I am very happy to have a book coming out on Orion and to share a bookshelf with H G Wells, Ian Rankin and Stan Bowles. I've always wanted to have a book published and it's all very exciting for me personally. Vaya Con Dios."

I read a lot of them online, and they were pretty interesting. Whatever a lot of people might say, he's a great writer, and I might actually check this out.

Did my comment get deleted or something? I thought it was professing a worthy attitude based primarily on truth. I have one of those evil looking bread knife things if anyone's interested. This Message Edited On 06.22.06

He is hated becuase the band(s) he was and is in are no longer cool to like. Ashame, the Libs put out some of the best punk music of the last ten or so years.

There is something so wrong about what musiee wrote.
The reason he is no longer cool to like because people have final reliased, the libertines at best are mediocre. At worst they are the epitamy of musians who believe they are above they're fans, and assume that, because they have undoubtable talent, they need not put effort into writing songs, doing something different or quite simply turn up to the gig.
Pete Doherty should be ignored.
And the libertines are so far from punk that on a musical genre tree they cant even see the punk branch from where they are.
