Trivium on Grammys

2009-02-17 by AtavanHalen | 42 Comments
Corey from Trivium has spoken out against the Grammys perception of "metal" in a recent interview.

Quote:
"If we got nominated it would probably be like, Trivium, like Slipknot, Slayer, and Metallica, and obviously Metallica is going to win by default. Because everybody is like, 'I know f--kin' Metallica.' It's like there's no... I'm sure people on the committee were voting for like the new Celine Dion garbage, or Alicia Keys Best Female Alternative Solo Keyboard Song or whatever the f--k they have for categories now. They look at the Metal category, and just go, 'Whoever's the name I know.' So there's not really... The Metal category is kind of a joke because they don't even have it at the Grammys. You have to go down the street. It's like before the awards at Applebee's down the street in a conference room or some s--t. So, I'm not really looking for a Grammy."

The first Metal Grammy was given out in 1988. The winner was Jethro Tull.

lol even if they didn't give it to Metallica, Trivium wouldn't win anyways. I absolutely loved Shogun, but it wasn't the best metal album of 2008.

Some really great songs have won over the years though. Off the top of my head, Deftones' "Elite" and RATM's "Bulls on Parade" were definitely worthy.

While I don't think Trivium deserves any kind of award.....I have to agree with them on this. The Grammys are bullshit. In no way should Lil' Wayne have won as much as he did.

most people who hate Trivium change their mind after seeing them live, because they have awesome energy.

and the Oscars are political?! No way!

Trivium's opinuin's are about as original as their music.
Why should they care aren't they too "credible" for the Grammys anyway?

I hate to be one to agree with him...but he kind of has a point.
The Grammys are pretty much run and followed by people who know nothing of music outside hit radio, MTV, Rolling Stone, etc. - save the stuff for jazz and contemporary Christian music.

I must admit, I did. They kick ass live.

He does have a point, even though he's not exactly qualified to teach an English class. This Message Edited On 02.18.09

he is right.
it is definatly a popularity contest.
not even the extremely popular metal (roadrunner roster) could win one of those things.

It really does seem like the Grammys just pick random names. Motorhead has won too many times.
