The End of Nine Inch Nails

This is a direct quote from NIN.com, with BS cut out:
Requoted so the whining and bitching will stop.

Quote:
In NIN world, 2009 marks the 20th anniversary of our first releases. I've been thinking for some time now it's time to make NIN disappear for a while. Last year's "Lights in the Sky" tour was something I'm quite proud of and seems like the culmination of what I could pull off in terms of an elaborate production. It was also quite difficult to pull off technically and physically night after night and left us all a bit dazed. After some thought, we decided to book a last run of shows across the globe this year. The approach to these shows is quite different from last year - much more raw, spontaneous and less scripted. Fun for us and a different way for you to see us and wave goodbye. I reached out to Jane's to see if they'd want to join us across the US and we all felt it could be a great thing. Will it work? Will it resonate in the marketplace? Who knows. Is there big record label marketing dollars to convince you to attend? Nope.
Does it feel right to us and does it seem like it will be fun for us and you? Yes it does.
Look for tour dates soon and I hope to see you out there.
It is a sad day for NIN fans.

It sounds a lot more final when you read the whole post on NIN.com, talking about the beginning and stuff like that.

Hasn't he taken these "breaks" 3 or 4 times already?
Doesn't sound like the end of NIN to me.

There's almost no one in the music industry that I respect as much as Trent Reznor. When he sees the political bullshit in the record industry, he throws the finger without a care. He's a lifetime artist in every sense of the word.
I was fortunate enough to see them once, I'll definitely attend this tour.

It was only a matter of time I feel. But yet I am certain he is too much a creative person to just rest on his laurels for the time being... More Reznor music is definitely in the pipeline!

I'll be seeing NIN live this Saturday night for the first time, and i've just started getting into their music after years of writing them off.

The decision between seeing Lamb of God on Stage 4 or seeing NIN on Stage 1 at the same time is now made much easier. NIN for sure

It's alright for you lot in the US, we hardly ever get to see them in Europe...I've never been able to see them...looks like I never will be able to now :-(

But then again this could just be another hiatus...it's not like he's not done anything like this before is it?

The guy put out three albums, a remix album and a DVD in the past two years, as well as toured for practically the entire duration of 2005-2009. Not to mention revamping his website, starting an intensive ARG for Year Zero, leaving his label and doing a project with Saul Williams.

If the man wants a break, give him a break. With all the work Trent has done in the past, especially as of late, he's not going to just stop making music all together.

uggh, I was really really hoping for Trent to release another masterpiece like The Downward Spiral. He hasn't released anything truly amazing since then, and I'm disappoint to shits that he's not going to.

aNimuS has the only sensible post here.

What part of Trents post says he's done making music. He's been incredibly active for the past 4 years, now it's break time or "disappear for a while" as he said.

Bands take breaks all the time. Relax people.

Maybe the break could inspire him to create another masterpiece like The Fragile
