Oasis = Rolling Stones

2008-11-28 by fireaboveicebelow | 41 Comments
Oasis leader Noel Gallagher has said his band are in the same league as The Rolling Stones now. The guitarist made the admission during the band's current US tour:

"Everybody knows who we are. You have to see us in league with The Rolling Stones now. Everybody's heard of the Stones, everybody knows what they sound like, everybody knows what they do. You either go because you like it or you don't. It's easy."

Gallagher also praised Ryan Adams, who is currently support Oasis in the US.

He told Rolling Stone: "I've got a lot of respect for the man. He's a great guitar player. He's a little eccentric. He wears stripy socks and platform shoes, but not everybody's perfect. I wouldn't be on tour with him if I didn't like him."

I doubt that unless you own the Empire State Building.
but nevertheless, they're just a mediocre brit-pop band, whose best days are long over. the comparison is just hilarious as the rolling stones were one of the most influential bands of the last century.

First they compare themselves to Radiohead, a much better band, and now the Rolling Stones? They've got some issues.

I've always found the Gallagher brothers to be arrogant/delusional fucks and this just proves it even more. Their music is nowhere near Stones standard.

I despise them to say the least. This Message Edited On 11.28.08

Yes, what's the context of these statements? Does he shout them out mid interview or is he prodded into them?

Ah...the classic comments directed towards Oasis for being honest...go listen to the first ever single released by Oasis and then come back. I've laughed heartily at the things Liam and Noel have said for 14 years now, they're hilarious. And reading American kids get all riled up because of it is almost funnier.

Off-topic: someone should post news on the new Glassjaw-song on their website so we can discuss how retarded some of the comments over at absolutepunk regarding the subject are.

I just find it funny that he thinks the Rolling Stones are still big. They're the equivalent of a reunion band nowadays.

(looks at huge catalogue sales, critically-acclaimed recent record and sold out world tours)
Yeah, have NO idea where THAT idea came from...

Not sure what everyone is getting so bent out of shape about. He means they're both ubiquitous and not really going to surprise anyone.

Lay off...

They have a recent album? Wtf? I think this explains why I don't view them as big anymore.

And sell-out world tours is basically the thing for reunion bands, which is my point. They're known for their classics, not what they do now. However, I may be wrong considering I didn't know they had an album out recently...

I love Oasis, but I'm tired of NME reporting every single thing Noel Gallagher does and says. Here is every Oasis related story in November:

Watch Brand New Oasis Video Online Now/ Noel Gallagher: 'Radiohead have been making the same record since 'Kid A''/ Oasis' Noel Gallagher to flog Del Piero's Juventus shirt on eBay/ Oasis want to buy a private jet/ Oasis' Noel and Liam Gallagher to carry Ricky Hatton's belts/ Oasis' Noel Gallagher slams Mick Hucknall after Manchester comment/ Oasis' Liam and Noel Gallagher join Ricky Hatton in Las Vegas/ Dizzee Rascal wants to work with Oasis despite Jay-Z comments/ New Oasis photobook launched in London/ Oasis' Noel Gallagher: 'We're in the same league as The Rolling Stones'/ Noel Gallagher compiles iTunes compilation

Fair enough if they like his band, but he doesn't need a personal reporter with him every moment of every day reporting any old crap that no one gives a shit about. Take the last story above for example; He's made an iTunes Celebrity Playlist. BIG DEAL, someone makes one of those every other day. Rant over.

Party at kygermo's house apparantley he can fit the 83,000 people who bought the album in the U.S. in his house!

Unless he's talking about the world wide fan base which judging by Dig Out Your Soul Sales was 600,000. You know there are some other countries than the states right? Get your guys heads out of your ass.

And if you had someone making a news story out of things you said everyday you'd probably end up sounding like a dick too.

But you guys are all giving reasons why people should continue to do these stories. Because they get tons of view from people who are doing exactly what Noel does except there in their underwear in their parents basement on their computer.
