Foo Fighters Announce Hiatus

2008-09-17 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 48 Comments
Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has revealed the band are preparing to take a "long break" from music and that fans should not expect a new album any time soon.

Speaking to BBC Radio's Chris Moyles, Grohl said, "we've never really taken a long break; I think it's time." He added, "after doing Wembley [in June] we shouldn't come back there for 10 years because we've played to everybody.

"We're over in the UK every year, every summer, so I think it's time to take a break and come back over when people really miss us."

Eh, now they'll have time to come up with some solid songs instead of semi-mediocre ones.

At least I got to see them before they broke up. I know not too many people on this site will be particularly upset about this, but I am.

Keep in mind, hiatus does not necessarily mean break up.

Maybe we can get another Pro-bot album then. And yes the Foos are mediocre, bland corporate rock. Shame, cus Dave Grohl seems like a solid dude.

I got the chance to see them with Weezer a couple years ago. Both bands put on a great show--but I'll be looking forward to seeing more material from them in the future.
Even if the music wasn't as complex as other bands, they still had a special kind of energy in their shows.

^^ Absolutely. Bland corporate rock? No. Mainstream? Yes. There is a difference there, in that the Foo Fighters were about having fun, maybe not pushing any boundaries, but their live shows especially were really good. Taylor Hawkins has a promising future apart from Foo Fighters if he decides to take it, as well.

even if you don't like their music especially,

they still deliver on stage...

The best thing about the Foo Fighters is a selection of their videos, with perhaps the sound muted.

i think a lot of people give the foo's a whole lot o' shit. (as seen on this page)

yeah sure they've had some floaters (one by one, rock disk of IYH). but a lot of people over look they're live performances. they are one of the best live bands i've seen, next to muse. they know how to put on a show.

but hey it's all opinion, but i think this is a well deserved break. between touring for a year and a half, and working on a great album (a lot of people don't agree w/ that) they need a break.

If any of you have caught them live, you wouldn't be so negative towards them. Certainly changed my view on them.

"Hell yeah" on all the live talk in this thread. I am very glad I got to see them play a superb show earlier this year.
The break is well-deserved & may not seem as long since they will be releasing a 'Singles Collection' soon to rake in some more money.

I dont mind the band. though their last album was very bad after the great but misleading first single. i reckon the break will be good, and they can come back making a solid album that we all know they have in them!

dont like this news, but Dave Grohl = Legend and the Foo Fighters are awesome and probably really really deserve this break.

Just wait a few months till Sony tries and fleeces a Foo Fighters "Best Of"

But... hopefulyl Grohl (and the boys) get bored, and Grohl brings out a solo album? hehe yes please

I don't think they get you Mr. Sexy Men.

Ah this sucks. Foo Fighters have made some of the best rock songs of recent years. Tell me The Pretender isn't great, and I'll blatantly disagree with you.

ya, Foos have some solid songs, and the acoustic side of IYH is excellent. Frustrating how everyone rags on the Foo Fighters and loves Paramore, when the Foos pwn Paramore for sure, and Dave Grohl simply rules.

Not entirely bothered by this news after their last couple of releases.
However some of their earlier stuff was indeed pretty solid.
Hopefully, if they come back, the break will help them write some better material.

Stream of mediocrity? Am I supposed to take that seriously from people that bust a nut over Metallica?

Spat Out Sexy Men listens to shit like AFI, Velvet Revolver, Jason Mraz, Motley Crue, and Our Lady Peace?

Iluvatar's list is laughable even in the same regard.

Altmer's list consists of shit metal 40 year old men that still live in their parents basement only give a shit about.

and Geedrummer listens to Limp Bizkit?

I guess I can't expect much from a site dominated by shitty dime a dozen emo bands and death metal. Good bargaining chips fellas. This Message Edited On 09.25.08
