Iapetus Records Shuts Down

Iapetus Records, home of Paul Marshall and The Ocean, has been forced to shut down following a hard disk crash which erased all of the label's data and information.

This label is 'dead'. We are still selling our current releases but will not be releasing any future projects. Why? Because technology sucks! Due to a disaster with a computer hard drive and an idiot not making backups, the entire label information got lost for good.

I'd like to thank everyone who made //IR what is was - the artists, the people who bought CD's, the people who gave our releases nice reviews and helped spread the word. Please support your independent record labels and do not download music illegally for free. It destroys DIY labels and small bands.

Please check out our new venture, Ballads and Blues.

Check out Paul Marshall's page for some great upcoming shows. The Dirge CD will be coming out on Ballads & Blues in the very near future...

How you can have a record label's heart and soul tied into one data source is beyond me.

Wow. How do you not make backups of such valuable information? That's irrresponsible. But still, that sucks.

As they would say at my school, they must have been using an IBM.

Haha, I like some of the comments on here.

Basically, Iapetus was never a 'professional' label, just a hobby. It was run from my bedroom. I was the only employee. Friends helped now and again. I was the idiot that never made backups of all the label information...

The label was growing tiring, so when I lost everything it seemed right to throw the towel in on //IR. I'm doing a new label/project now called 'Ballads & Blues', focusing on smaller run handmade releases by bands who arent quite there to have fully pressed CD's yet.. Demos etc.

And thats it.
