lololol. terrible. I find it surprising that a bunch of Fall Out Boy fans actually knew a pantera song.
|
| |
Skipped the solo, wonder why
|

Fall Out Boy will never get my respect. No matter what they try to do.

. . .you've got to be shitting me.
upon watching about a minute of this video, i had to stop because I didn't want to vomit out all my internal organs.
this is almost as bad as Live Earth's "Message in a Bottle" featuring Kanye West. Way to kill a classic, FOB.

Once again, Wentz shreds.

LOL.

RIP DIME
:chug: THIS ONE'S FOR YOU
|
| |
wait what's so bad about this
i mean clearly it's mind-numbingly stupid like every pantera song
except instead of a bunch of rednecks
you have fall out boy
|
| |
but
it's pantera
|
| |
Pantera > all of you.
|
| |
you = BallsToTheWall
:/
|
| |
Why is it everyone seems to be needing to memorialize Dimebag Darrell at every show (this includes the retards @ FOB)...RIGHT NOW. It's been 3 years since he died and now everyone starts to be doing it again, like it's some fad.
|
| |
you = BallsToTheWall
:/
That made my night.
|
| |
...This is a joke right? Fall Out Boy did not just rise to be in my top 5 most hated bands because they did not disgrace this song like I think they did right?
One of the greatest metal bands ever have one of their best songs fucked up yet again. The only cover I like of this song is Disturbed's.
|
| |
Well that says a lot about you.
|
| |
It's honestly not that bad, except it's fall out boy doing it, which means it's awful.
|
| |
i think people are confused by the shitty youtube quality, and think it is fall out boy's fault.
|
| |
Why is it that all of these bands put up with Fall Out Boy? Misery Signals has the vocalist on their album, ETID is apparently playing shows with them. It really speaks to their character that they are doing this.
|
| |
This was about as good as anything Pantera has ever done.
I like FOB more than Pantera... thats right, i said it.
|
| |
Are they trying to make people hate them now? I mean, I don't especially like Pantera or anything, and I've always seemed to dislike Fall Out Boy, but both of those aside this is just stupid, period.
We get it, you guys are ironic. Cute.
|
| |

Speaks to whose character? What's the issue here, that Fall Out Boy are huge and still support their smaller peers or that their smaller peers still respect the band enough to support their music?
Why do people act like FOB are some newfound radio gimmick? They didn't come out of nowhere. Furthermore, why do people care if they cover Pantera?
I'd sooner listen to Fall Out Boy play shitty Pantera songs and have fun with them than hear Pantera play shitty Pantera songs and take them totally seriously.
And who says they're being ironic? Just because they play pop doesn't mean it's all they listen to.
Christ you guys are idiots. This Message Edited On 11.26.07

i really don't like pantera at all, but even so... that was a pretty bad cover :/ ehh, whatever.
|
| |
FOB is infinitely more listenable than Pantera. *prepares to be crucified* That said, this cover is worse than even the original, which was already horrendous.
Seriously though. There's much, much worse out there than FOB. Sure they don't have a whole lot of talent, or at least choose not to show it, but when there's people like James Blunt and Nickelback still writing music, FOB's catchiness should at least be appreciated for what it is...
|
| |
Fuck fall out boy its sucks that they stole there name from the simpsons, but touching metal territory especially a pantera song is blasphemous... i wish nothing but death upon the band, thier families and their poser fans...
lololol
|
| |
Look at those 14 year olds pumping fists. HAHAHAHA but seriously honestly minus the solo which isn't there this is fine. You new fangled met00l kids had your minds made up about this before you even watched the video.
|
| |
For whatever reason I listened to this and it sounds exactly like the original so I don't really understand where all the hate is coming from
|
| |
do i detect the sound of someone spinning in their grave???
seriously though i don't mind FOB. some catchy shit
|
| |
Because it sucks?
Because it's a good solo.
Is everyone even sure this is FOB? I mean, how many FOB fans would actually know the lyrics to a Pantera song...
|

People that dont just listen to fall out boy
even annoying FOB fangirls listen to things beside fall out boy
Some of you guys need to step your game up because your FOB flamming is becoming ridiculous
|
| |
Well, Pantera and Fall Out Boy don't exactly go hand-in-hand, and I wasn't flaming them you fag.
I scrolled through the comments on that video and found on out that one of the dudes on stage was from Every Time I Die, so maybe FOB and ETID were playing together. Makes sense that a good deal would listen to Pantera then.
|
| |
Wow.
This was really lame.
Like, I already dislike Fallout Boy,
but when they go out and cover a PANTERA
song...that's just asking for heckling.
I don't even really like Pantera, but just the
fact that they would cover a metal song is
basically saying, "Hai guiyz luk, we r tuff!!"
I think it's worse than Avenged Sevenfold's cover,
fucking hate that band.
And I'm preeeetty sure the solo
was skipped because of an obvious
lack of ability(talent) on FOB's part.
|
| |
I'm pretty sure I read that the drummer was in a metal band before FOB. Besides, lots of people listen to Pantera. This makes more sense than when they covered Akon, at least.
|
| |
It's not a bad cover.
In the context of the show it's acceptable too. If they did that on their arena tour it'd have gone over most of the audience heads, 12yr olds with their parents.
However it was a small show where they played all of their first album and this cover, the fans knew the song and appreciated it.
Meh i just think fall out boy have worked hard to get where they are and have had a pretty loyal fan base before they exploded with sugar.. And there's no reason they don't listen to metal. I sound like a twat now but nm
|
| |
Its not shit, just isn't the right band really.
|
| |
I think a lot of people are forgetting that the original version already sucked enough so I doubt Fall Out Boy will make it any worse.
|
| |
To me, it just seems like they get more of a reaction when they do these bizarre covers than they do when they actually put something legit out.
I know its easy to jump on the "fall out boy r fgts" bandwagon and everything, but seriously these guys are awful and this just seems like a quirky attempt at drawing attention to themselves. Apparently it's working too.
But personally, I'd rather see them come out with a song that wasn't unbearably bad or mind-numbingly predictable than to keep seeing shitty youtube videos of ridiculous cover songs. I know they're "having fun" and everything but if it was some metal band covering a Fall Out Boy song it'd merit the same reaction... a few people would be saying oh well its not that bad and the rest would be calling them fgts for doing so.
|
| |
It looks like a pretty good time had by all, everyone seems to be having a lot of fun in the video. They didn't sound that bad either.
|
| |
It sounds pretty much the same as the original, can't ask for much more.
I love comments like "lol I am surprised they even know about Pantera or I am like surprised they can even play any of it lol". Believe it or not almost all musicians in a professional band are good at their instruments, even if it's a band you don't care for. And just because Fallout Boy is a pop/rock/pop punk band doesn't mean that is all they listen to, they probably like music from all genres. If they made it in the music industry they obviously have a deep love for music to practice that hard/promote that hard to make it their living. It's not like it's an easy thing to do.
|
| |
One more think I would like to point out is that when bands cover songs live they really don't practice them but a few times. Which is probably why he didn't play the solo. A band like Fall Out Boy has to be really busy and when they have down time I doubt they want to spend a lot of it perfecting cover songs to impress idiots on forums.
I am sure if some people on this forum (that can't even play standing up) can play that solo one of the guys from FOB can (and will at least play it in rhythm). They have most likely been playing WAY longer than you and play pretty much everyday. Stop putting solos on some pedastool. The cover was fine, they did it for fun, and they aren't trying to be something they aren't.
|

*pukes*
|
| |
metal covering pop barely ever works, so I am going to assume the opposite holds true.
|
| |

I'm finding this to be a little annoying as well. Just leave the man alone already!
|
| |
I believe devin townsend said it best in the song far beyond metal.
"Oh you ironic pop-rock fuck. Don't you fuck with metal."
|
| |
The drummer is going to break an arm playing like that.
|

the drummer played in Racetraitor, a band much heavier thatn Pantera.

The band was influenced by Metallica and Slayer. It makes perfect sense.
And I have to admit I like both Fall Out Boy and Pantera.
|
| |
Why is everyone dissing Pantera? It's fine if you don't care for them, but they certainly don't suck. Phil's vocals, Dime's riffs and solos, and Vinnie Paul's double bass have influenced many bands on the metal scene today. I'm not being a "metal noob", but surely some kind of respect should be given for that sort of thing.
I do agree with a previous post stating that loads of bands listen to music you'd never expect them to. I'm good friends with an amazing jazz drummer in a jazz band...he's a big fan of bands like Slayer and Tool...it's what got him into music.
|
| |
Why does everyone care about this? Pantera was a massively overrated band whos guitarist is hailed as a king because he's dead and did whammy bar tricks, sorry but thats the truth, and if anyone feels offended by that your way to attached to a musician you didn't even know. You've all been ragging FOB for doing absolutely nothing wrong, so turn around is fair play here.
They aren't prestigous gods, meaning that no one can cover their songs. Let FOB have fun with it, its not a big deal and stop acting like it is. Hell, I'm not even that big a FOB fan (their latest album was fairly good), but like a few others have said its better to let a pop band have fun with it rather than a metal band like Pantera take it seriously.
|
| |
ehhh... the guitarist surpisingly had some decent distortion and didn't too bad, and yea there was no solo but i doubt he cared to waste his time learning it. oh and no, i am no fall out boy fan, i hate them. im just saying if they want to cover pantera thats cool let them... just like someone else said just because they are pop punk band doesn't mean they don't listen to metal.
|

The youtube discussion for this vid is hilarious.

Imagine how different the reaction in this thread would have been if we didn't know who the band was.
|
| |
So basically Petey boy posts that letter being a puss about a song making fun of his bedwarmer, and is now trying to restore some street cred by joining the "RIP Dime" legions?
Maybe, maybe not. But it does paint a stark portrait of ironic humiliation.
|
| |
I won't watch the video, but the original song sucks ass anyway like most Pantera songs. Cemetery Gates is pretty good, but aside from that they suck.
|
| |
Walk grew on me, sure it's dumb as fuck but I love it anyway. It anthemic, with an infectiously simple riff, and an iconic solo. It draws criticism but this never really stopped me from liking it.
Anyway FOB covers Pantera, it's not the end of the world. It's not an official release or anything, they are just rocking (or not rocking depending how you see it) out in concert with a metal song a lot of people know.
Sure they are pop punk, but at least they aren't sticking to expectations by staying within their pigeonholed genre when they play live shows. This Message Edited On 11.27.07

Whoever said Dimebag was a shitty guitarist, please kill yourself, and I know for a fact that you're not better than him anyways. That guy had incredible riffs and one of the most recognizable (and imitated) guitar tones ever, let alone his immense technical chops that went all the way from rock to country to blues to metal without any problems. The guy practically wrote the book for modern metal guitar after Metallica began their slide of suck.
As for the FOB cover, who f*cking cares? The Police were a jazz band that played pop and reggae music. Did anyone slag DEP for covering Justin Timberlake? Or BTBAM for covering Queen and Counting Crows? Get off your scene pedestals like right now. What's so ridiculous about FOB playing one of the most popular modern metal songs ever? It's pretty obvious they listen to metal and heavier music than the stuff they write to get paychecks and sex, not to mention they were all in metal/hardcore bands before they even started FOB. Try listening to something outside your three-foot box one day, there's amazing music in EVERY genre out there. I'll throw on Prince, Justin Timberlake, Amy Winehouse, Peter Gabriel, NFG, and blink-182 alongside Slayer, Opeth, Glassjaw, Mastodon, In Flames, Morbid Angel, and Maudlin Of The Well in one sitting with no problems, so eat it.

good call

"Or BTBAM for covering Queen"
Who's that band and how dare they cover Queen?
It's irony, unclench your anus.
No Queen cover beats the original though, ever.
|
| |
Heveins cover of Walk is pretty sick. Got a symphonic touch, pretty cool.
|
| |
This is the same if Simple Plan decides to cover The Clash's "London Calling". In that case, I'd buy a machine gun and personally kill each member of the band.
|
| |
It's fine if you don't care for them, but they certainly don't suck. Phil's vocals, Dime's riffs and solos, and Vinnie Paul's double bass have influenced many bands on the metal scene today. all those bands suck though

BTBAM = Between The Buried And Me. Don't quite know why your panties are in a twist guy. I was defending FOB's choice of cover, not adding fire, and I don't even like the band that much either. Please cease the dumbassery.
