It's probably not about anything. I mean, their albums usually arent, regardless of any implied concept.

This album is the sound of a band playing— magnificently— for its life. And it is a recording of such strange power that I believe the Goliath that haunts them will be forever struck down.
That made lawl. Seriously, I love TMV, but COME ON.

"But others are willing to acknowledge that most metaphysics may just be the elements of physics our brains can’t quite comprehend yet, and that there is a great power in words, and in belief. "

I actually can find NOTHING pretentious in that statement.

The Bedlam in Goliath unveils Mr. Pridgen as a drum-pummeling berserker mainlining cheetah blood and snorting dusted mastodon bones

Ooof. I thought these guys were on friendly terms with Mastodon, what with Cedric singing on "Siberian Divide" and all. Guess they just want to be the most extreeeeeeeeme mainstream prog band around.

Some may not have interpreted it that way but that's what came to mind the second I read "drumming" and "mastodon"

At least there's some theme to this one, unlike the previous release.

Wow, I never previously noticed TMV were massively pretentious either!

Fail. A mastodon is also a prehistoric elephant. That's what they were talking about.

This album will either be their best or their worst. There will be no inbetween.

the mars volta's new album is about a ouija (weegee) board they named Soothsayer which supposedly told them a story then started asking them questions supposedly an entity known as goliath started to haunt them after they were on tour post amputechture its the reason why the drummer leaves and cedric gets hurt it causes the delays of the album The board threatens the band and they bury it wen we hear the album we will hear the story of goliath and take ownership of the curse

cedric's lyrics are compared to Bjork and Ghostface Killah

he uses english words primarily but speaks his own lyrical language

This all makes perfect sense. I just hope i dnt get too much of the curse

EPIC! Basically this is over done but funny. A good story and I have high hopes for this album and the rerecording of Rapid fire tollbooth.

I know what a mastodon is, in fact I'm somewhat insulted that you thought I wouldn't know that. I know there is room for interpretation there but it's what came to mind for me personally. Others may be content to think of it as just a prehistoric elephant, I'm not going to tell them what to think.

Assuming you're referring to the band I always thought of them as more like Yes

As I suspected, based on this narrative, this album is either going to be amazing, or it's going to be a disaster. I'm really doubting there's going to be any middle ground this time around.

I don't know if they're serious...but I can say that after reading that, I felt like I went through everything myself.

I will kill for this album.

TMV has been edging closer to musical masturbation since they expanded the average amount of ambient noise between songs to at least four minutes on Frances the Mute.

De-Loused was awesome BECAUSE of it's weirdness, Frances was awesome IN SPITE of it's weirdness, and Amuptechture was not awesome at all. It had awesome moments, but they were few and far between.

I'm not really expecting to be blown away by whatever TMV produces from here on out. We'll see. . .

This wall of crap is seriously the most ridiculous thing I have ever tried to read in my life. How do Cedric and Omar not get photographed walking around with their cocks in their mouths?

So im correct in thinking the Mars Volta are set to release a radio friendly album full of timeless three and a half minute pop rock hits.

Please tell me there will be guest vocals by Rob Thomas

You are incorrect deadinholywood. They said there will only be one or two 3 minutes songs...which probably wont be poppy or radio friendly.

This is there three-minute-ish track, and the first song to be going to radio "Wax Simulacra"

http://video.umrg.com/marsvolta/waxsimulacra_revised/quicktime.asp

Is it poppy? Well it will get stuck in your head, but so can EVERY Mars Volta song.

Is it radio friendly? I've never heard anything like it on the radio before, so probably not.

All in all, if this is any indication, the album will kill people.

and the new Rapid Fire Toll Booth owns the old one. and no more annoying warbling that he used to do, worst singing by Cedric = The Palpations form a Limit. I cant even get through it

Does any one know if this Wax Simulacra is how it will appear on the album or is it just their normal shortened single. It sounds like this song has been cut down but im not sure. P.S. Goliath/Rapid Fire Tollbooth is my life

Well, I listened to Wax Simulacra... It's not as bad as I feared. It's odd, there are only about 7 seconds of this I actually hate (namely, that god-awful saxaphone solo that sounds like an baby elaphant being molested by a cougar).

This actually gives me some hope for this CD...
