Steven Wilson Haunts a Chapel

2026-10-03 by John Marinakis CONTRIBUTOR | 7 Comments
Steven Wilson has released On Chapel Slope, the second single from his forthcoming ninth studio album, Requiem for a Village, due November 6 through Fiction Records.

Following the previously released title track, the song arrives with a video directed by Mike Bennion. Wilson and his wife Rotem appear at a village wedding, while figures rise from the surrounding graveyard and the celebrations take an unsettling turn.

The album draws inspiration from David Gladwell's 1975 film Requiem for a Village. Its fictional rural setting reflects Wilson's interest in British folk horror, supernatural fiction and the work of artists such as Stanley Spencer.

The twelve-track, 54-minute release follows 2025's The Overview. Wilson will introduce material from the new album at London's Royal Albert Hall on October 28 and 29, accompanied by his band, the Parallax Orchestra and the Sansara choir. The concerts will also feature new orchestral arrangements of The Overview.

I enjoyed it, but it feels like it’s missing something. Almost like there was another gear to the song that it never reached. Music video is cool though.

I was getting cool Nick Cave vibes (musically) for the first 3/4s and then it kind of lost me with the orchestral arrangement.

I feel this song would work more contextually with the record, it has a somewhat drone feel to it which reminded me a tad of Swans. I wanted it to build a bit more to something but the next track on the record might work along with it. So it’s a strange choice of single but it’s still super cool sonically.
