East Bay Ray Shares Diagnosis 2026-09-23 by John Marinakis CONTRIBUTOR | 1 Comments | Dead Kennedys have announced that founding guitarist East Bay Ray has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
In a statement issued on September 22, the band’s management said Ray intends to continue performing and touring for as long as his health allows. They also conveyed his gratitude for fans’ continued support. No further details about his condition or treatment were disclosed.
The group currently has four West Coast shows scheduled for October, with appearances in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Riverside. No changes to those dates have been announced.
Ray co-founded Dead Kennedys in San Francisco in 1978, helping establish the band’s sound on their 1980 debut, Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables. After disbanding in 1986, the group resumed touring in 2001 without original frontman Jello Biafra.
Ray also recently released the solo single Area 51, produced by Butthole Surfers guitarist Paul Leary.

Fucking sucks. My grandma died from Parkinson’s some 10 years ago, and it’s not the best disease to have.
But since then, treatment and symptom management have made some huge leaps forward, so I’m genuinely hoping it’ll be easier for him. Good to hear that he wants to continue touring.
