A few days after the August 10 alignment of planets Mercury, Venus, Zeus, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune, visible at dawn along the east-to-south horizon, Swiss tech thrash veterans Coroner uploaded a video for a brand new song at their official YouTube channel.

Titled "Renewal", the track is part of the band's upcoming album Dissonance Theory, due out on October 17 through Century Media records.

You can see the video, right below:

Fantastic song, can't stop playing it again and again.

Sound work could have more character and be livelier/rawer though…

Cool song, I agree with ppl in the other thread that it doesn’t really sound like Coroner. The mix is super saturated with sounds, I like myCoroner with a little more room to breathe

This legendary band needs more recognition and support. Will see them live if they came close.

I saw this band back in 2011 at Bloodstock, I seem to remember the frontman was saying "the band are working on new material", so I'm a little surprised it's taken 15 years for something to come to fruition. But it's Coroner, and I'm glad they're back with new stuff all the same. This song is nothing like the material on Mental Vortex or Grin but then again when there's more than three decades that have passed since those releases I guess that's what I should expect. Song absolutely rips, parts of it remind me of modern day artillery but there's that unmistakeable Coroner edge that makes it stand out.

-- not really surprised that the production is ass

It's not a matter of label, I'm afraid, it's a matter of producers refusing to adjust the knobs of their console to the band's character.

It’s a shame too, no matter how good the material is you can’t break through that thick layer of synthetic monotony that plagues so much modern metal. You’d think in this current, prog-heavy death metal market there would maybe be some other producers that would play to Coroner’s strengths a bit better.

They’re a very experienced band, surely you don’t need to bury the instruments that much.

Having Atheist, Coroner, Voivod, Toxik and Watchtower playing and writing new music in 2025 shows how rad and special metal is. They should tour together worldwide

It's a matter of budget too. I remember reading a relatively recent interview of Dani Filth where he said that the decline in sound quality essentially started when studios in which a band could have a multiple month residency for recording and production sessions, started to close en masse, because fewer and fewer labels could allocate the necessary funds.

Thought of Grip.Inc. at the beginning, then Samael - VERY similar. Might have to do with production as mentioned by others. Couldn't have guessed this is Coroner...good song overall.

^^I thought of Grip Inc. too, especially considering what Vetterli is playing during the chorus.

Song is pretty good! I'm just wondering why a legendary thrash metal band would hire the same producer that had a hand in the latest Architects, Machine Head and BMTH albums...

To be fair, the only real excuse about the current state of sound work, is that there are no money to properly fund sound productions.

I was reading an article about Exodus at Blabbermouth, whereby their bassist said that nowadays they are "traveling t-shirt salesmen" because they have no decent record sales to break even, whereas their live concert fees merely pay for their traveling expenses…

I actually don’t have a big problem with the stripped down old school sound that a lot of the modern bands (Tomb Mold, Voidceremony) use. If they can at least the have vocals come through clearer than those two then I’d take it over the modern studio sound. I’d like to think it might be the cheaper option

Thought it was alright on first listen. Then I kept listening, and kept listening...I'm getting pretty hooked on it now. I agree with everyone on the generic mix though, I don't know why in 2007 we just decided thrash has to sound like that forever now.

I'm pretty sure the Jordan Fish credit in the YouTube description was a mistake, because their album announcement mentioned a completely different producer

You might be right! I also see Tommy Vetterli credited for production, that would make more sense. Still, Fish might have been hired to produce the electronics/ambient sounds and what not.
