Great chorus riff, guys!
| |
Once again, I'm bothered by Chinos lack of presence in the mix, but still a kickass song.
| |
Really looking forward to this. Love the cover art and its variants.
| |
Chino’s lines have been stuck in my head ever since I listened to this. Superb song
| |
I'm not even a fan of this band but these two songs has been surprisingly good. Color me impressed.
| |
i disPLAAAAAAAAAAAY
| |
Better than the first single. Still don't understand why Chino sounds like he's being smothered with a pillow but hopefully it won't be like this for the whole album.
| |
i'm betting it will
album will be same level as ohms, probably around a 3.7-3.8 which at this point is a win
anything more than that is a slam dunk
| |
"Better than the first single. Still don't understand why Chino sounds like he's being smothered with a pillow but hopefully it won't be like this for the whole album."
we're two songs in it probably will be. while i don't hate it, it is definitely noticable
| |
I’ve grown to accept it. I’ll admit chino hasn’t been in top form for a while so I think giving the instrumentals more room in the mix while he moans about waves and fires or some shit is probably a good move at this point
| |
Stef's "Holy Ghost / Holy Spirit" riff is awesome but other than that, it's lackluster. Chino does sound good though. He fits buried in the mix, gives it a more shoegaze-y feel.
| |
“ He fits buried in the mix, gives it a more shoegaze-y feel.”
Yeah when you describe it like that it kinda makes me wanna hear koi in this style.
Diamond Eyes and Koi No Yokan sound pretty much the same production wise so I’m very surprised that this isn’t following that trend considering it’s all the same producer
| |
2025-tones
| |
He’s in the pocket in the production just fine
Weird thing to nitpick still but I get it
| |
Great riffs, great chorus, and it feels urgent which they haven’t felt in a while. Pumped.
| |
this is sick
| |
First song was a total snoozefest, this one rules
| |
certified banger
| |
Yeah, I love where Chino is in the mix. Both singles sound great so far. Really excited for the new record, gonna be better than Ohms if these singles are any indication.
| |
Great, urgent and Chino's voice fits in just like another intsrument. It's like it doesn't really matter what the actual lyrics are.
Make's also a great pair with thornhill's silver sawrm if you play them back to back
| |
Deftones simply do not have a band album IMO.
I love how big and urgent this new stuff sounds.
I always feel like Saturday Night Wrist is so overlooked. That's the album where Chino sound the absolute best to me.
I don't mind him being buried in these songs-- his presence is growing more on repeat listens.
He was too forward in the mix on Ohms. I still think he's got it, but the later Deftones stuff is at its best when it is at its most textured.
| |
Rips
| |
it's amazing these guys still deliver after all these years, love it
| |
I think the days of Chino's rough stuff is over. Which is ok as long as the music still rips.
| |
“ Great, urgent and Chino's voice fits in just like another intsrument. It's like it doesn't really matter what the actual lyrics are.”
[2] could not agree more. Got the deluxe and indie store exclusive variants pre ordered
| |
These new songs have been infinitely catchier than anything they've put out in a while. Kinda wish the bridge was longer cause it sounded heavenly.
| |
@Deadwing completely agree with everything you said
| |
This is actually so fucking good wtf
| |
Not convinced but I'm sure the album will still win me over. It always does.
| |
Wish the spacey part in the middle had continued on into something else but other than that great song.
| |
the snare roll into the hihat makes the song imo
abe is the best member
| |
yeh, Chino taking a backseat in the mix is a huge plus for me
abe is the best member [2]
| |
[3]
Always has been. Why do you think Crosses and Palms don’t see near the amount of acclaim/popularity? Abe-less
I can’t say that about Team Sleep because Zack Hill also fucking rules. People are just tripping by not listening to that band.
| |
Not a huge deftones phone but dig these 2 tracks so far
| |
Join us
| |
The band is autopiloting hard.
| |
Nah this is the best they've sounded in well over a decade.
And I dug Ohms
| |
Yeah, I’d take this over most of Ohms and Gore. And I also love both of those records. I’m sure they’re saving some of the truly mind blowing stuff for the drop.
Particularly excited for souvenir and departing the body, they’re both around 6 mins…
| |
This is the best song I've heard from them. Then again I've only heard 4 of their albums so
| |
I think the mixing is a big part of it being so good
| |
They finally got the vocal mix correct
| |
Yeah I absolutely love the production and mix, his slightly buried vocals just adds to the atmosphere imo
| |
This is fantastic
| |
I love it so much as a straightforward banger but I do kinda wish there was a instrumental switch up after that atmospheric little break
| |
And something tells me the flow of this album is gonna be insane. The intro and outro sound like they flow straight into the tracks before and after
| |
Love this. Idk what to think of the mix atm though. It's... weird. I guess it will grow on me cause it's not a bad choice for the Deftones sound, just different from the previous works
| |
I think it gives it a cool vibe having the vocals buried. So many bands crank the vocals out the front of the mix, this is refreshing and the two new songs have been their best since KNY.
| |
Great track. Love the urgency.
| |
Y'all act like Chino's vocals haven't been smushed around with reverb and compression for....ever. I agree they're blurrier in the mix here, but it's not that vastly different. It'll be interesting to see how it works if there's heavier moments or he gets screamy.
| |
This is really good
| |
There’s this thing called “Shoegaze” that they are heavily influenced by. Shoegaze typically puts the vocals on the same EQ as the other instruments.
| |
never listened to deftones but this is pretty cool
| |
One of their best songs in ages
| |
Pretty cool song for sure.
| |
yeah that random soft break does nothing but interrupt the flow of the song, not sure why it's there
| |
oh I love it I just kinda wish there was more before that last chorus and outro
| |
Yeah a day and a couple dozen listens later and this song is absolutely phenomenal. I can't get enough.
Agree with the folks who have said they wish the bridge was a bit more developed, but it also feels kind of necessary to have a breather. The entire song honestly feels like a giant, extremely catchy chorus and the first single was similar. I'm really impressed and excited; think it's reasonable to expect their best since Koi No Yokan.
| |
That bridge had more potential than what they did with it but good song anyway.
| |
I can barely hear chino
| |
Does any of their previous works sound similar to this or is this new territory?
| |
It sounds like a mix of Ohms and Koi No Yokan to me, with different production on the vocals
| |
Yeah I don't think they are doing anything wildly different or new here with their sound in general, but both of these singles show an approach that is very refined and deliberate. The production is well sculpted and really emphasizes their shoegaze influences.
I think that Koi No Yokan is probably the closest to these two songs.
| |
It's essentially Deftones crafting songs for a younger, Lollapalooza/Coachella crowd
| |
I hear Saturday Night Wrist and Koi No Yokan with these two songs. First few seconds of this is a variation of “Mein” even though this is significantly better.
| |
Might have to give Koi No Yokan another chance then
| |
"That bridge had more potential than what they did with it but good song anyway."
nailed it
| |
Not gonna lie, Koi No Yokan was my second favorite album after White Pony.
| |
KNY took literal years to grow on me. As far as I’m aware Gore still sucks lol
| |
Only listened to about 10 seconds. Sounded sonically sexy and amazing. Going to wait for the full album to jam
| |
feels more original for deftones than most theyve released in the last 10+ years
| |
I genuinely like this no matter what anybody says
| |
Saturday Night Wrist > Koi No Yokan > Diamond Eyes > White Pony > Deftones > Ohms > Around the Fur > Gore > Adrenaline
| |
white pony > koi no yokan > diamond eyes > around the fur > saturday night wrist > deftones > ohms > adrenaline > gore
| |
Liked the first single a little more. This one starts to feel repetitive. Both good though. It’s gonna be a solid record.
| |
when u nut but she keeps on milkin
| |
I’m prob closest to Scoot in ranking with some minor swaps
| |
Started real strong then lost steam when I realized there wasn't much of a chorus/bridge
If it had a KNY level chorus it would be killer
| |
I must be a weirdo with how much I actually liked Gore. Not as obsessed with this single as I was/am with the first. Feels like the song just repeats itself twice with an instrumental break in the middle. Doesn't seem to ever take it up a notch.
| |
I mean, it's a solid 7-7.5 song but for Deftones it's nothing special. Surprised so many people are gooning over this
| |
The song doesn’t vary much but the vocal melodies are cool and nicely integrated within a nice groove and a cool guitar riff. The drum work is also stellar. It’s simple but it’s very effective. Production is immaculate as well imo
| |
The sense of urgency with both of these singles has me so excited. I think that's something Ohms lacked, an overall sense of energy and urgency with too many mid tempo songs.
| |
great great song, confident and sexy these two new singles
| |
I liked Gore fine when it came out because it was new, but then moved on from it and kind of regarded it as their worst album. I listened to most of it again recently and it’s actually quite good. Chino’s vocals are a highlight.
| |
Yeah Gore is great, I love that people have started to come around on it because it got so much shit for so long
I’m def in the minority but it’s far from their worst imo, and with better production it might even go up a notch or two
| |
Geometric Headdress snd Doomed User are two of their best songs. Too bad the rest of album is mediocre. I mean what were they thinking with Pittura Infamante and Lmirl. Those songs are legit awful.
| |
It would absolutely be a great album with better production.
| |
imagine putting Adrenaline last, couldn't be me.
| |
"Geometric Headdress snd Doomed User are two of their best songs. Too bad the rest of album is mediocre. I mean what were they thinking with Pittura Infamante and Lmirl. Those songs are legit awful. "
those songs are indeed great but Phantom Bride is the best track on Gore and easily one of their career highlights.
