holy god this is amazing. dustin sounds monstrous. I hope this isn't a one off on the record.
| |
My god, why a breakdown? Why not a Neurosis-like bouncy riff session? Why not a whiny quiet outro, or anything other than a breakdown?
| |
Song is aight, chorus is cool. Haven't liked the last couple but will probably give this one a spin
| |
Sounds great.
| |
Respectfully I think Dustin's heavy vocals sound really awful
| |
Interesting! It's definitely a different direction than I expected, but not bad! I am curious how the rest of the album will sound.
| |
RIP Ozzy
| |
Heaviest they've been in almost 20 years, shit slaps. YES a breakdown peasant
| |
Some interesting sonic choices, and the mix is strange, but overall I'm intrigued by the direction of this.
| |
Really digging this, never thought I'd hear a breakdown in a Thrice song.
| |
Interesting. Curious to see where this album goes
| |
Double Post double post doublepost dblpst dt -
| |
This feels like a train wreck lol. I liked parts but I have no idea what to make of this
| |
This is weird. The chorus is cool and seems pretty on-brand for Thrice (even self-referential with “subtle dagger”) but the verses and that BIZARRE squelchy, wet effect on the “riff”? Synth? I get the idea but on headphones at least it sounds gross. If you’re gonna have a breakdown you better be able to GET DOWN, because this is weak sauce. Whip out a guttural or something lol
| |
Not like they've never had chug breakdowns and double bass, they just haven't put one in a new song in 25 years. If I'm not mistaken the band said that re-recording and touring the Artist material reignited their passion for heavy stuff, and Riley/Eddie have always pushed for more of it
| |
Well that was ok I guess
| |
Well that was ok I guess
| |
Sorry had to make a thrice comment
| |
I quite dislike that breakdown
| |
While it's cool and heavy and a little different, my one complaint is Dustin's vocals which I think are way to quiet in the mix, particularly in the chorus.
| |
I remember seeing them on their "farewell" tour in 2012 so it's still weird to see them putting out new music. Song's good though, but if I didn't know it was Thrice I wouldn't have guessed it was them.
| |
Yeah ok this is awful lol
| |
That was not at all what I was expecting
| |
its iight
yeah the breakdown is bad
| |
Nice to hear heavier Thrice after H/E, hoping the album is good.
| |
But yeah, Dustin is mixed too quietly in the overall track.
| |
Banger!
| |
The electronic elements sound so bad to me I can’t even get into the cool parts
| |
Not bad
| |
Beggars is the best.
| |
At least Teppei is doing something other than quietly plinking along.
| |
The more I listen the less I like
| |
Huh. Not entirely sure what to make of this. I appreciate that they’re trying something different, at the very least. Definitely a lot more interesting than anything off their last couple releases
| |
Decent stuff, I need time with it
| |
They’re called Thrice because only their first three albums were good
| |
Song’s tight, I personally like the mixing, makes the guitars sound huge. That breakdown at the end is cool, heavy but unconventional. If their single is this weird and taut this album will probably be really strong
| |
The electronic elements are so bad [2]
The more I listen the more I hate [2]
| |
One thing is for sure with Thrice, no two consecutive albums are going to sound the same. They're always throwing different things at the wall.
| |
Thrice, what are y'all doin. This ain't it.
| |
Some of the elements here are decent on their own but together it doesn't work. 0 cohesion. And yeah you guys are right, lol at that breakdown, what year is it
I still need to listen to the previous album so maybe it's good? But I haven't heard anything decent out of them since Major/Minor, well over a decade ago
| |
Love this band but this is not good. Feels like tired old men trying and failing to be heavy.
| |
@decisions you seem to have forgotten that Vheissu is Thrice's 4th album
| |
There’s one riff on this song that is so sludgy and awesome and is immediately ruined by the godawful mix of the synth and guitar together
| |
"@decisions you seem to have forgotten that Vheissu is Thrice's 4th album"
he dum
| |
I loved it
| |
i mean its fine, if anything its the most a thrice song has interested me in yeeeeeeeeeeears
| |
“Some of the elements here are decent on their own but together it doesn't work. 0 cohesion.”
Yes. The songwriting is abysmal
| |
Kinda agree yeah, the bass is so good tho
| |
slightly better than the new underoath lp's sound but not by much lol
| |
This shit is not good at all. That synth shit they're doing in the verses sounds awful.
| |
Surprised so many people dislike it, in my opinion it’s the strongest lead single they’ve put out since Yellow Belly.
| |
Sounds a bit like NIN at times, I thought
| |
> Why not a Neurosis-like bouncy riff session?
Anybody know a Neurosis song I can check out to hear this?
| |
@Decisions is a goober. Thrice peaked in the Major/Minor/Beggars era, and TBEITBN is a fantastic album as well.
| |
They should take notes from Attack Attack on how to write a proper breakdown
| |
Yeah I hear that too @cornhawk, there's some industrial rhythm stuff going on for sure
| |
I like that they are experimenting, but the vocals sound bad and the production choices are bizarre.
| |
I was expecting to hate this, but this song fucking rules.
| |
I like the heavier direction and the chorus sounds good, but I hate that squelchy fat synth sound. Such a weird choice and doesn't mesh at all in the breakdown.
| |
Like many appreciate the direction but it could have sounded much better without the electronic sounding breakdown.
| |
This is probably the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard from these guys and I think that’s why I kinda fuck with it
| |
I like this! I actually think their discog is really really good all the way up thru Major/Minor, but I haven't enjoyed the last few as much. Would be nice to get another great record from them.
| |
The production is a little rough, but I do actually fuck with the synths. The parts of the song themselves are good, and I think that's what will keep me coming back. And the breakdown is unique. I fw it.
| |
It's like thrice heard neurosis for the first time...
And fucked it all up.
| |
Pit,
| |
This song is pretty good tho
| |
The last album was like a metal version of Beggars so its curious they seem to be heading towards their own take on metalcore. They were grouped with some of those kinds of bands early on but transcended them easily. Its be cool to see what Thrice in their 40s and 50s would make with a basic genre like metalcore.
| |
Yo who tf mixed this? It's an awful mix.
| |
Where are people listening to this that they think the mix is terrible? Or are you all using SkullCrushers or something
| |
"The last album was like a metal version of Beggar"
beg your pardon?
| |
A little muddy, but love the song overall
| |
hahahaha this is just funny
| |
not really getting anything out of this, but then again im just an early thrice fan
| |
Riley said this was the heaviest song on the album in a podcast yesterday
| |
"Riley said this was the heaviest song on the album in an podcast yesterday"
That's a nice way to kill any excitement for a heavier Thrice record.
| |
wow that's so lame haha
I honestly didn't have any hopes for this because I didn't really care for this song but man if this is the heaviest of the album then we are in for another snoozer
| |
you guys are smoking, the song is heavy regardless of any band
| |
what the fuck was that breakdown. these are the same guys that wrote the to awake and avenge the dead breakdown? sad
| |
now every time the end of to awake and avenge the dead hits i'm going to hear that stupid breakdown in the back of my head
| |
