This is weird. The chorus is cool and seems pretty on-brand for Thrice (even self-referential with “subtle dagger”) but the verses and that BIZARRE squelchy, wet effect on the “riff”? Synth? I get the idea but on headphones at least it sounds gross. If you’re gonna have a breakdown you better be able to GET DOWN, because this is weak sauce. Whip out a guttural or something lol

Not like they've never had chug breakdowns and double bass, they just haven't put one in a new song in 25 years. If I'm not mistaken the band said that re-recording and touring the Artist material reignited their passion for heavy stuff, and Riley/Eddie have always pushed for more of it

I quite dislike that breakdown

While it's cool and heavy and a little different, my one complaint is Dustin's vocals which I think are way to quiet in the mix, particularly in the chorus.

I remember seeing them on their "farewell" tour in 2012 so it's still weird to see them putting out new music. Song's good though, but if I didn't know it was Thrice I wouldn't have guessed it was them.

Song’s tight, I personally like the mixing, makes the guitars sound huge. That breakdown at the end is cool, heavy but unconventional. If their single is this weird and taut this album will probably be really strong

I like that they are experimenting, but the vocals sound bad and the production choices are bizarre.

I was expecting to hate this, but this song fucking rules.

I like the heavier direction and the chorus sounds good, but I hate that squelchy fat synth sound. Such a weird choice and doesn't mesh at all in the breakdown.

Like many appreciate the direction but it could have sounded much better without the electronic sounding breakdown.

The production is a little rough, but I do actually fuck with the synths. The parts of the song themselves are good, and I think that's what will keep me coming back. And the breakdown is unique. I fw it.

This song is pretty good tho

The last album was like a metal version of Beggars so its curious they seem to be heading towards their own take on metalcore. They were grouped with some of those kinds of bands early on but transcended them easily. Its be cool to see what Thrice in their 40s and 50s would make with a basic genre like metalcore.
