Tomb Raider composer jailed

British composer Peter Connelly, better known for composing Tomb Raider's 4-6, has been sentenced to 16 months in prison following a guilty verdict for loan fraud during the Covid period.

Connelly started work on a project that would reimagine music from the Tomb Raider series. In an interview with Insolvency Service, Connelly would call it a "significant project which had the potential to be very lucrative," reportedly selling his car and taking out personal loans to fund the project. However, work would "stall" by the time the pandemic hit, and Peter Connelly Limited would go into liquidation in 2021.

During the Covid period, in 2020 his company took out two loans from the Bounce Back Loan Scheme. The Chief Investigator at Insolvency Service said:

"Peter Connelly blatantly disregarded the rules of the Bounce Back Loan Scheme, designed to support small and medium-sized businesses during the pandemic. Connelly not only secured two loans when businesses were only allowed one, but deliberately inflated his company’s turnover to receive more money than he was entitled to."

On 17 July at a Durham court, Connelly was sentenced to 16 months in prison and disqualified as a company director for six years.

C'mon he made a mistake on a loan. Prison? For what? It’s not like he’s a threat to public safety. Locking him up isn’t going to help the economy or society. If anything it’s a waste of resources. There has to be a more productive way to handle this.

I agree with the above in all honesty.

Strange way to deal with him.

I wonder if he only got caught because he used his name in the llc? So much money went out to wherever in the US.

16 months seem a bit much considering the small loan sums in question...
