Voyager have Seen Better Days

Australian progressive metal group and Eurovision 2023 entrants Voyager have released their first new music for 18 months, since their European tour was cancelled in light of frontman Danny Estrin's Stage 4 cancer diagnosis.

The new single, "Seen Better Days", lyrically confronts the effects of Estrin's battle with cancer since. Says Estrin:

“Difficult times yield dark music. It won’t come as a surprise that ‘Seen Better Days‘ is a personal account of the 18 months of hell, through chemotherapy, radiation and surgery that I have endured. Embracing the beautiful love and support I have received from friends, family and fans while often putting on a brave face in the horrid abyss of stage 4 cancer is no easy feat, so I felt it was right to put it to words and music.
Somehow as brutally vulnerable as the song is, it still maintains an uplifting melancholy and, despite its crushing ending, manages a breath of optimism through the bleakness… after all, life is beautiful.”

There is not yet any news regarding further activity from Voyager.

haven't really been a fan of their more recent work, this song included, but they're clearly very passionate people and very very lovely. hoping danny and the rest of the band all the best even if musically it's just not for me any more.

They're from my hometown, I've hung out with them a couple times after a gig, great people and put on a great show... but yeah their music is fun but not my cup of prune juice and this song is no exception. Glad they got some more recognition after eurovision and hope Danny pulls through

ghost mile is fantastic, definitely worth a spin if you haven't already tried it. it's what really sold me on the band though sadly they've not approached that again as far as my taste goes.

I love this band, and would say Ghost Mile is their best.

I really hope Danny holds on. Fvck cancer.

You can definitely see the toll chemotherapy has taken on him but he's not giving up without a fight. Stage 4 is incredibly tough to come back from but it can be done - the British comedian Rhod Gilbert had stage 4 cancer a few years back but is now cancer free.
