Vended: Slipknot's Legacy

2024-09-20 by Viraemias | 36 Comments
Vended, a rising metal band from Des Moines, Iowa, have just released their self-titled debut album. With a sound reminiscent of early Slipknot, the band, fronted by Griffin Taylor, son of Corey Taylor, is carving out its own identity while paying homage to its heavy roots.

Apparently the band also has Shawn "Clown" Crahan's son, Simon Crahan on drums. So Vended *really* is Slipknot's legacy! Very interesting

Gave Where The Honesty Lies a listen, and though it's obviously very Slipknot, it's surprisingly not that bad. I might have to give that album a shot.

Saw these guys live at a festival once. They were ok, but definitely not main stage material, which was where the played

Oh dang I didn't even see this but I just posted my soundoff opinion

Basically they would be compared to Slipknot even if they weren't their kids. They could've done something different if they wanted but they pretty much made Iowa 2.0. I dig it, but I also grew up in Iowa and am just a diehard Knot fan, so...

production is pretty lifeless. early slipknot had that powerful drum sound that this just completely lacks.

Apparently Griffin was upset by some of Slipknot comparisons but it's like... Dude you copied your dad's vocal style nearly identically, both in singing and screaming, and your band plays an extremely similar style of music, what did you expect?

Can't get into this band. Really does just feel like discount Slipknot. Slipknot themselves sound like discount Slipknot at this point but you know what I mean.

It's fine but feels like a missed opportunity. If they want to show their pops that they can take over the family business that's fair enough, but it'd be cooler if they used the old Slipknot sound as a starting point to explore something different.

I’m torn. Part of me feels like this would actually be better if they adopted more of the classic Slipknot imagery and intentionally marketed themselves as the successor to Slipknot.

As is, it’s just confusing because it sounds eerily similar to Slipknot yet not as good, while retaining no obvious imagery or connection to them.

They’ve got to go all in, or do something entirely different.

The tribal drum sound is like 90% of what makes the first Slipknot album great, so there’s really no reason for this to exist.

The squeaky clean production does NOT help this band

Nepotism is fucking everywhere now. Landon Barker opened for Blink 182 on their most recent tour when I saw them, despite playing generic music.

yeah the worst thing about this is it's too well produced for a project that otherwise sounds like a local mid 00s myspace band

but i gotta admit this is still better than anything five finger death punch ever put out, i suppose that's noteworthy

Slipknot minus the 2 guys beating on trashcans and the guy that headbands behind a soundboard or the sampler that does the same disc scratch over and over again. WOW!

You guys think Clown passed down his beer kegs as like a family heirloom? Is that how his son discovered drums which are basically beer kegs with a few extra steps?

I wonder if they'll go "heavier" for their second album, name it 'Des Moines' and then make radio-friendly metal on their third album and beyond (all complete and utter shit, lest we forget)

honestly Corey is so washed up now that if his son is forming Slipknot 2.0 then... you know what, i actually couldn't give a fuck.

One thing: these bands should sing from the depths. What did this kid ever had to go through? rich kid with all his dreams allowed. What is the point of screaming if you re just fine? I mean think Chester Benington and the aftermath, music should express not impress.
