Actually completely hyped by it, finding elements of American Idiot and Revolution Radio on it, which is not bad considering their 2020 effort.
Let's just hope that if that record goes deep into the political/social commentary, that it will actually have some meaning, not just a pale copy of AI turned into a cash grab.
Let's be optimistic and wait for the next song.
| |
Song sounds like it is by a band who is about to release their first album for a new label.....
| |
New track is pretty good. Miles better than anything off Father For All... so I am pretty optimistic atm.
| |
I’m getting American Idiot vibes and that’s definitely a very good thing, I’m remaining optimistic
| |
oh yay they're trying again
this song is fun. its bridge is so good. the other songs theyve played live off this album have been better than this too. real excited to finally get a studio cut of 1981
| |
It’s a’ight
| |
Very surprised that this isn't bad, pretty fun song
| |
sounds like a 21st century b-side
| |
Songs good, 1981 had been sounding good live, the b side to the 7" is good so maybe this will be good lol
| |
Billie Joe go one song without randomly mentioning suicide challenge
this is actually a bit of a tune tho
| |
I like the album art
| |
Yeah album art is cool, will give this a listen after work
| |
The Green Day classic-sound return to form is welcome for sure, but man the production/mix here especially is a breath of fresh air
| |
Idk this just seemed very by the numbers. I guess when you've been as bad for as long as they've been that comes off as a good thing?
| |
oh wow one eyed bastard is on here i remember thinking that was pretty good too
| |
Song is absolute garbage. This band has nothing left :/
| |
Do people not just like this because it uses Basketcase's melody note for note in the pre-chorus and bridge?
| |
one of the few three pieces that'd actually benefit from being a four piece
all of their shit sounds so empty and hollow and the production doesn't help
add more riff and fuzz
| |
as long as i am supplied my 4ths and 7ths i dont really care
not like they havent much more obviously lifted full hooks from prior albums before
| |
production is hollow, lyrics have nothing real to say. Just more Revolution Radio-esque Green Day, move along.
| |
Song is fine lmao
| |
Song is fine lmao [2]
| |
may be a grower but atm I just find it ok, American Idiot and 21st century breakdown opening tracks >>
| |
Honestly better than anything they've put out since American Idiot. Feels like what should have followed up American Idiot. Not exactly exciting but it ain't bad.
| |
Hate the chorus but everything else is actually decent
| |
Definitely wanna see Smashing Pumpkins, always a great show — but meh, not sure about Green Day. Never seen them live, and I love American Idiot, Dookie is good but I’ve never been into most of their stuff.
| |
Oh, and this song is definitely decent. Much better than anything off their past half dozen awful albums.
| |
Yeah, empty lyrics and empty production makes empty song. The longer this band goes on it's clear Green Day died in 97 and American Idiot was written by a different band.
| |
Buncha 50 year old millionaires harping about how hard done by they are by the American dream
| |
Green Day might release a lot of shitty music, but their live shows are always killer
| |
Yeah, Pizza I was gonna say the same but I figured it's a given. American society is filled with millionaires complaining about "the system" while making millions in that same system.
| |
should have stopped at nimrod.
| |
Nice Beatles song
| |
Yo Blink, this is how you mix a track.
| |
did a 7 year old write those lyrics
| |
Green bloody century at this rate innit
| |
What if Green Day manages to pull a Blink-182 and release a decent album. Could be huge. This is better than edging was.
| |
@mantis I'm fine with millionaires complaining about the system tbh but like don't make yourself out to be a victim of it
| |
Big cry baby
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-MEkBMYMb8
| |
“ I'm fine with millionaires complaining about the system tbh but like don't make yourself out to be a victim of it”
Agreed. And sometimes lyrics aren’t about/for the person writing them, so i don’t think there’s anything wrong with someone writing something that they can’t currently(or ever) relate to.
| |
I mean I guess it's better than anything off that last one
| |
"Idk this just seemed very by the numbers. I guess when you've been as bad for as long as they've been that comes off as a good thing?"
This happens a lot. Almost feels calculated sometimes. Band hasn't been good since American Idiot so even saying it calls back to Revolution Radio or 21st Century Breakdown aint gonna do it for me regardless.
| |
"Buncha 50 year old millionaires harping about how hard done by they are by the American dream"
Lmao also this, BJA has been impossible to take seriously for so many years now, guys a fuckin chut.
| |
revolution radio was pretty good agreed
| |
This song turns the new Blink album into progressive music
| |
Reminds me of 21st Century Breakdown era GD (not enough bite to feel like American Idiot era), which is fine with me because I still really enjoyed 21st Century Breakdown. Actually moderately hyped for this album now.
| |
"Buncha 50 year old millionaires harping about how hard done by they are by the American dream"
My thoughts exactly. Band should've hung it up a long time ago
| |
Best they've sounded in over a decade for sure
| |
I just don’t care about dad rock bands.
| |
Certified bop
| |
Album art is sweet
May decide to listen to this out of boredom at some point lol
| |
Album art is cool
| |
"Buncha 50 year old millionaires harping about how hard done by they are by the American dream"
Nailed it. BJA was so triggered by the red senile segregationist with rape allegations, he voted for a blue senile segregationist with rape allegations, then patted himself on the back
| |
Band's always been garbage.
| |
What would Andy Warhol do?
What would John Waters do?
What would Quentin Tarantino do?
What would GREEN DAY do?
| |
These guys are really cool
| |
mid. sounds ok i guess?
| |
Yeah mid is about right
| |
After sitting on it it’s still just okay, it’s way better than whatever their last album was (even though I accept that album was a joke intentionally)
| |
I know that Father of All was a joke album, but it still left a pretty bad taste in my mouth. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy they're releasing new music that, from what I've heard, actually sounds like Green Day music, but I've just not been inclined to check it out myself
| |
They have made this exact song countless times by now. I haven't liked anything from them since Warning.
| |
father of all motherfuckers is their third least shit album
| |
man this year has been crazy for pop punk combacks.
we got blink, sum 41, the beatles and now green day!?
shit is lit, hopefully mgk drops something too.
| |
I'm just gonna say it.
I have finally come to a definitive conclusion that hearing a drip of singles one by one in the months leading up to an album's release ruin the album. I recently started subconsciously deciding to avoid listening to new singles from bands I follow because I legitimately think it harms the album experience at release.
This song is kinda nuts though because of how classic Green Day it is. They may be going back all the way to like Nimrod style writing of just chill, unassuming but good songs that grow on you.
| |
The marketing post announcing the album was definitely cringe, but I just checked the song, and it's actually a bop! It feels very classic. Nothing special, but it doesn't really have to be. Green Day don't have much to prove at this point, we don't need American Idiot 2
| |
Green Day do have a lot to prove at this point. We do need American Idiot 2.
| |
song bangs and i'm stoked as fuck
| |
This is some hot dogshit
| |
shit is lit, hopefully mgk drops something too.
EYOOOOOOOO
| |
Song gives me Warning vibes
| |
The more I listen to it, the more I get a mix of vibes from past albums. The songwriting feels very reminiscent of Nimrod and Warning, but the vocals feel very American Idiot. The harmonies on the prechorus especially make me think of American Idiot
| |
Look as long as there are no Swedish songwriters involved, I'm happy.
| |
Look, Ma No Brains! is a blast. better than the first single
band might actually be back
| |
yeah its a fun tune
| |
My only gripe is that Look Ma, No Brains is way too short, but what we get in those 2 minutes is stellar
| |
new song is good. if the rest of the songs are of the quality of these 2 singles, the album will probably turn out to be a solid 3-3.5.
| |
I’d say 2 minute is basically the perfect length for a song with that title lol
| |
Look ma no brains would've sounded a lot more interesting if it was released 20 years ago
| |
New single up! "Dilemma". It gives me similar vibes to "Give Me Novocaine", but that might just be me.
Easily the best single so far
| |
that felt kinda like a menzingers song, but somehow a better menzingers song than the menzingers themselves can write now lmao
i dug it. best one so far
| |
Honestly, the singles are looking really good so far. They keep this up, Saviors might be the best thing they've released in a while (low bar lmao)
| |
Damn, Dilemma kinda rules
| |
more i have jammed it i lowk think dilemma is a contender for their best song since 04 lol
| |
Song rules honestly
| |
Oh shit Dilemma's awesome.
| |
Yep, Dilemma slaps. I am genuinely excited for this album now.
| |
Dilemma is phenomenal
| |
Wait when did these guys start writing good music again
| |
Very recently, believe it or not! God, it feels so good to be hyped for Green Day again lol
| |
One Eyed Bastard is so awesome
| |
yo isn't the one eyed bastard riff that pink song lol
| |
dilemma is a nice throwback to their warning days, would much rather more of that
| |
one eyed bastard is dope. glad the mix has improved vs the leak lmao. the bridge owns
| |
if only Billie had found some other verse to sing instead of ba da bing ba da boom.
| |
Yeah that lack of a real chorus is annoying me haha
| |
Not as good a track as Dilemma, but still super catchy and fun. If the rest of the album holds up to the standards the singles are setting, we’ve got a hell of a good time on our hands
| |
Fine I will listen to the album when it drops
| |
New song is average at best, that chorus is really annoying. But every modern GD album has songs like that which are still catchy and don't really ruin the experience. Overall, Saviors is still shaping up quite well. The other three singles are all fire.
| |
I'm getting to hear this album early tomorrow, and I'm fucking hyped!
| |
Let us know if it's amazing or if these singles are false advertising ;-)
| |
Oh, you'll be seeing a review pop up (hopefully, if I have the energy to write it in between school and work and discog runs)
I feel like a real music journalist now, listening to albums in advance and shit
| |
I think it's going to be a decent record overall. I'm expecting maybe 2-3 more duds, but that's fine.
| |
Maybe it's just how hyped I am to here good Green Day after Father of All, but I'm expecting a 3.5 or 4 rating
I also am a Pollyanna, so that might play a part in it
| |
Expect a review sometime tomorrow, but long story short, Green Day are fucking back!
| |
oh idk if you can review albums before theyre officially out lol
but yeah great album best gd in my lifetime prob
| |
Ahh that would make sense. I’ll prep a review for Friday then. In any case, definitely their best since 21st Century, possibly since American Idiot?
| |
best since warning for me personally
| |
you can if you can prove you've received an official promo from the band / label itself
so yeah if Green Day gave you the album early go for it lol
| |
I wish I had that sorta clout LMAO. Nah, Green Day did early listening parties at record stores
| |
that might be official enough tbh. id ask
| |
yeah def check with staff maybe in the 'for the meds' thread
| |
coma city and corvette summer made such a killer middle combo and i am dying to hear both of them again lmao really cant wait for friday now
| |
wait the new album is actually good?
| |
@onion such a great 1-2. Father to a Son was also incredible
@outliers it's actually unironically fantastic. Green Day was doing some apologizing with this one
| |
Coma City and 1981 are the shit fr. top 3 with Dilemma for me
| |
think mine is that with strange days subbed in for 1981 but 1981 is a glorious banger too. absolutely lived up to all the live vids
| |
can confirm that the new green day is vastly better than anything wonder years have ever put out
| |
Nice
| |
hope ya called a yoga instructor before that massive fuckin stretch lol
| |
@insomniac BTW, I only counted one more dud, Bobby Sox, and that was still super freaking catchy
| |
bobby sox was not a dud lol that song ripped
living in the 20s was pretty easily my least favorite but i still dug it
| |
Funny, Living in the 20s was my personal sleeper hit.
I thought the chorus of Bobby Sox was a little too repetitive for its own good, but the song was still amazing
| |
ehh no more repetitive to me than some of the other singles. i felt like it was able to justify that choice too by having such a visceral and different vocal performance in the context of the record (and their discog tbh like when tf does he sound like that lmao)
| |
Bobby Sox gets +20 points for its Heavy Bisexual Energy
OEB is pretty easily the worst imo but seeing the whole store sing the chorus together warmed me to it a little bit, was v cute. don't remember what Adeline sounded like too much. other than those it's all bangers
| |
Been a damn while since I’ve heard a Green Day album with 0 skips
Agreed on the bisexual energy, and I do agree that the vocal performance was super unique. Billie Joe proving that old dogs can still learn new tricks
| |
Well, the review's written. Just gotta wait until Friday
| |
god i need a(n acceptable quality) leak in my ears rn lmao corvette summer will not leave my head
| |
A good Green Day album in 2024? Holy fuck.
| |
After listening to the Bobby Sox teaser on instagram, I am really curious. Those raging vocals were something else for BJ
| |
Repetitive chorus aside, it was such a unique vocal performance from Billie Joe, and I LOVE it! Can’t wait for Friday, gotta repeat this album a million more times
| |
The teaser for Father to a Son almost made me tear up. Gorgeous emotional track
| |
Their apology for 15 years of bad music lol
| |
Woah, woah, Rev Radio wasn't too bad!
| |
Yall give this band wayyyyyyy too much credit once every ten years
| |
I mean yeah but an album can be good either way
| |
Dookie and American Idiot are their real landmark albums. AI was absolutely foundational/formative for me, and definitely felt culturally important at the time (at least within my social circles). They haven't done too much to impress since then, but everyone knows what they're capable of which leads to hype.
The singles for this album are mostly good.
| |
How’s Fancy Sauce? I feel like Green Day sometimes pick the weirdest songs for closers (not always, but too often)
| |
i like the album more than american idiot but american idiot has grown off me over the years. not a big fan of a lot of its slower moments where this is mostly just trying to rip front to back (sans like one ballad but its great)
| |
I keep going back to the Corvette Summer clip on their Insta. Something about that chorus just sticks in my brain
| |
years ending with 4 are their thing it seems. too bad they missed 2014
| |
drip drip on this apparently
| |
having a hard time not replaying coma city over and over again lol. like my dream green day song right there
| |
