Horrendous unveil Preterition Hymn 2023-07-17 by Fernando Alves | 17 Comments | Progressive death metallers Horrendous unveiled the third single, 'Preterition Hymn', off their forthcoming fifth studio album, Ontological Mysterium, out August 18th through Season of Mist. You can stream it below.
Band comments: "Preterition Hymn is a lament for the weary and the damned–those who, like in the myth of Tantalus, can glimpse the golden fruits of knowledge and divinity yet are kept perpetually just out of reach by the tides of misfortune and fate. It is a hymn of longing infused with the faintest hope that our misery is merely the cleansing ablution necessary to don the robe of flames, free at last."
Ontological Mysterium was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Damian Herring at Subterranean Watchtower Studios.
Tracklist:
1. The Blaze (02:00)
2. Chrysopoeia (The Archaeology of Dawn) (07:16)

really pushing the boat out with that album title huh
| | | looks like AI created the track-listing too, lol
I'm sure this will be a jam either way
| | | Surprisingly boring tbh, but I bet the rest of the album will be better
| | | the band comment reads like some waiter at an overpriced restaurant describing the specials
| | | I wanna go to that restaurant
| | | interesdting
| | | It is a hymn of longing infused with the faintest hope that our misery is merely the cleansing ablution necessary to don the robe of flames, free at last.
It is a rack of lamb with a wine-infused butter, cultivating a delightful sensation that appeases the tastebuds necessary to don the bill of exorbitant price, charged at last.
| | | they are losing me on these two recent songs
| | | Hmmm
| | | -they are losing me on these two recent songs-
The album flows a lot better as a whole than in singles form. Wait for that full, first sitting.
| | | it's more that i'm not a fan of the vocals
| | | Pretty lukewarm reception so far. Hopefully the bois do us right
| | | surprised by the reception, this is great to me! Not their best material but it's still pretty great
| | | Didn’t like this as much as the previous two singles, but it’s still solid
| | | this was OKAY
| | | track feels like it will be better in the context of the album, and it's the mid-way song so I can see this being a bit of a reprieve from some of the heavier stuff
| | | maybe this makes more sense in album context, but who was asking for their dm to be chill?
