Mosh Detection Mode 2023-06-17 by Fernando Alves STAFF | 7 Comments | "MPD has responded to multiple accidental 911 calls at Bonnaroo. It’s likely that these calls are a result of “Crash Detection Mode”, a new feature on Apple iPhones. Please be mindful and consider deactivating this feature on your phone until Bonnaroo concludes."
U.S. Manchester(TN) police tweeted this statement after multiple Apple iPhone and Watch users who were in mosh pits at the Bonnaroo festival (this Thursday, June 15th) made several unintentional calls to emergency services.
Crash Detection Mode is a new feature launched by Apple for iPhones and Apple Watches that automatically notify first responders if a user is involved in a road accident. It is supposed to trigger when it detects rapid accelerations and decelerations but in practice it seems to be identifying all kinds of sudden movements.
