Feel like the new Insomnium record relies more on atmospherics than straight up riffs but you're not wrong

Atmosphere is better when generated by good riffs and coupled with quality songwriting/varied structure. Melodic death metal without riffs is like a car without wheels - yeah you can sit in there and rev the engine but you are going nowhere and just making a lot of noise.
