Sounds like Leprous.
|
| |
Hopefully this means Leprous can move back towards a more band-centric Leprous. I like this, though.

Einar Solberg's 1st solo LP...rous
where's his sis n bro-in-law's new LPs? Ihsahn is EP-ting himself n Starofash seems to have sleepy-bye crash'd
|
| |
A different outlet for Einar's non-prog/non-metal stuff could be pretty win-win. I like Leprous's recent output, but they were also a really distinct voice in the prog scene when that was a greater focus. Hopefully we can have both.
|
| |
If they both end up basically being Einar features, I'm not sure why he would even release a solo album.
|
| |
I mean, bands aren't necessarily formed around how they sound but by their constituent members. This could sound like Leprous but not feature the other musicians from Leprous.
|
| |
Agreed, but as the main songwriter for the band, if it sounds like Leprous why wouldn't it be Leprous (unless he's exploring two very different facets of the band with two different projects from this point on)?
|
| |
Song's decent, hopefully this means Leprous will head in a more interesting direction with future releases though. Aphelion was a pretty disappointing release.
|
| |
Am I the only one that hears Meg Myers when this song starts?

thank god, now Leprous can go back to having some bones in their albums. Pitfalls was so wishy-washy I didn't even bother with Aphelion when I heard it was more of the same.
|
| |
People don't seem to realize that Pitfalls and Aphelion were quite collaborative
|
| |
It's pretty good. It'll be interesting to hear where the rest of the album goes.
|
| |
its great
|
| |
"People don't seem to realize that Pitfalls and Aphelion were quite collaborative"
we can dream though
|
| |
"People don't seem to realize that Pitfalls and Aphelion were quite collaborative"
I refuse to acknowledge it ;) Seriously though, were they collaborative like later Geoff Tate Queensryche albums where he set all the parameters and limitations and said collaborate within these rules or don't collaborate?
Also, has anyone listened to the beginning of this and the beginning of that Meg Myers song?

| |
This is actually his third solo album after aphelion and pittfalls
|
| |
hilarious and original.
have some respect for the rest of the band.
|
| |
Really curious about the track with the guy from VOLA
Also for a pop album this one is surprisingly long so it might be a pleasant surprise like the Ross Jennings one
|
| |
"People don't seem to realize that Pitfalls and Aphelion were quite collaborative"
This. Ironically, the album that Einar has stated he had the most creative control over was The Congregation.
|
| |
Does this mean leprous will be good again
|
| |
Song is OK, kind of like a more bland version of Leprous music... Will be interesting to see if this changes up Leprous' music now that Einar really has a solo outlet
|
| |
Looking forward to that Asger Mygind feature!

Unfortunate to still see the "Pitfalls and Aphelion are Einar solo albums!!1!!" talking points when 1. Einar has always been the main songwriter and 2. The band has many times stated that they've had more collaboration on these albums than any other. To quote Einar: "I already had a solo album. It's called The Congregation."
Quips aside, it's an interesting conversation. I could see how the band's direction into more minimal instrumentation and strings/synths gives the impression of there being a more "focused" songwriter, like how a solo artist might branch off from the main band, but I think this is a bit misleading. People like to reference the evolution of Einar's vocal parts in recent albums as being a signifier for this as well, but albums like Bilateral and Coal are honestly just as vocally indulgent, if not more. /rant

| |
Regardless of reality, it just feels like the earlier albums were more band oriented because you had more direct exposure to the entire band while the last few have been more vocal-centric and the band itself has had a less direct role. So, unless you're reading the interviews and engaging in these kind of discussions, the only thing you have to go on is the progression from album to album.

what Willie said
|
| |
I honestly really liked Leprous‘ dabbling with trip hop elements. Seeing their Massive Attack cover live was mind blowing.
Then again they have 2 guitarists who are essentially jobless on their more minimalistic songs, so I definitely wouldn‘t mind a more guitar focused album from Leprous. The few guitar solos on their last two albums were great.
|
| |
idk man Sigur Leprós just ain't doin it for me
|
| |
I just lol’d at work, making it clear I wasn’t in fact working.
|
| |
Happy Valentine's Day, Einar!
Love,
Einar
|
| |
thedoom, they all play synths or piano live, or they do backing vocals. They are far from jobless lol, they are permanently running around on stage trying to get to their instruments in time. Also I don't think they mind not playing guitar all the time
|
| |
Somehow I'm much more willing to give this direction a chance on his solo stuff. Really didn't enjoy the last two main records.
