lmao those chimes in the intro is the cheesiest thing i've ever heard.
|
| |
Sounds like the type of comment from a commoner who is only hearing this song now after a week late news post.
|
| |
got'em
|
| |
definite miss on the cover art
|
| |
Song is A-okay
|
| |
Oh man not another post hardcore great having a bad comeback album. I dont know if I can take another one after Underoath
|
| |
"definite miss on the cover art"
lol it's so bad
|
| |
all 3 songs have ruled and are better than all underoath songs since reformimg yea
artwork is next level awful tho yea agreed with everyone on planet earth
|
| |
Liking these three singles more than pretty much anything on OC / YC so that's a good sign. Album art alone is gonna dock some peoples' ratings I can see it now
|
| |
I also agree that all 3 songs rule and are better than all new reunited underoath
|
| |
I haven't been keeping up on my new AOF
Gots to get back in to it
|
| |
sweet dreams of otherness really grew on me. First impression of this is pretty great. It's all secondary to how it sounds live; it'll play excellent.
|
| |
cover art can't shake the Joe Goldberg with fake nails and makeup meme allegations
|
| |
Sweet Dreams goes so hard live
|
| |
on album too
|
| |
Some of Dallas' all-time best work imo
|
| |
Wade's really the only one who fell off incredibly hard from his earlier days of actually writing amazing guitar parts
|
| |
jk lol this is great as fuck and the chorus is gonna be outstanding live.
|
| |
All 3 songs have a generic production or a production that buries, something that I can’t quite put into an exact description, yet, but all 3 songs are generally good to fantastic.
|
| |
I’d say it is the worst production and mixing of their entire discography. Surprised no one else has said that, anywho, I still listen to all 3 songs every day and enjoy regardless.
|
| |
there have been nonstop production complaints since the lead off dropped, and it is deeefinitely the worst part of these songs but they dont really hinder how much i like the songs and work better aesthetically than other recent bands from this time that have warranted recent production complaints
also imo they do sound a hair better than the 2019-2020 singles, much as i love season of the flood
|
| |
Damn this shit weak
|
| |
*he muttered looking down at his toilet*
|
| |
song is fine, production is fine
|
| |
Yeah my personal least favourite of the new bunch so far. The other two were sick though.
HOWEVER the most disappointing thing about this comeback is definitely that wack ass artwork. Designed by Nick Steinhardt (of Touche Amore) and I usually adore his art but man this shit ain't it lol. What was he thinking..
|
| |
Nick is very hit or miss. Obviously sunbather a huge hit, but Bayonnes second album has pretty weak album art.
|
| |
lmao the first shoutout on the new album
Song rules albeit a bit cheesy, maybe Dallas best AoF performance
|
| |
There is literally nothing offensive about the artwork
Some fragile masculinity it would take to get worked up about that
Suits the album title and the knee jerk reactions only reinforce that fact
|
| |
It's fugly
|
| |
What's offensive is how ugly it is
|
| |
These songs are fucking bad
|
| |
is it alex is on fire, alexis on fire, alexi's on fire, or what
|
| |
Bro it's been 20 years. Everyone knows it's alexisonfire.
For real though, it's Alexis on fire.
|
| |
New track is great, but would have loved more George on it.
There is alternate cover art on some vinyl releases that is much more palatable: alexisonfire.tmstor.es/product/93653
|
| |
New track is great, but would have loved more George on it.
I'm pretty sure he sings the lower harmony all over the track
|
| |
man their screamer is going to be a doing a lot of standing around when they perform the new songs live
|
| |
i mean songs without a lot of george are nothing new for the band. look at side walks when she walks and happiness by the kilowatt. plus the opener is supposed to be an absolute ripper so there will be plenty of george throughout the album. j doesnt make as much sense stylistically to have him scream a lot on this song
|
| |
Nick Steinhardt made this cover???
Huge L on his part.
|
| |
today I learned disliking album art equates to fragile masculinity
|
| |
Damn i never considered the alexi's on fire conspiracy theory.
|
| |
I have been doing a brilliant prank or something like that on my girlfriend with this band. She hates metal and for two weeks ive been talking about canadas favorite modern metal band Alexisonfire and then play her the Death Letter EP, Sans Soleil, live acoustic performances, etc and have avoided playing any heavy song or song with screaming. She thinks that one scream from George on Sans Soleil is their heaviest song and keeps asking me whrn are we moving to Canada to get away from all the horrible metal and live with the people who think alexisonfire is metal...
😁😁😁
|
| |
I have no idea where this is leading so i am accepting ideas.
|
| |
production is blach agreed but still another good song, really liking the chorus on this
|
| |
why they all sound corny. have no expectations for the new album.
nah Underoath's Voyeurist is greattttttt!!!
|
| |
I disagree the HbtK has little George
|
| |
he has like 4 lines lol
|
| |
We all know Dallas prefers the acoustic version anyway lmao
|
| |
One of the best city & colour songs I've heard in a while. Pretty weak bridge though.
|
| |
@Eldar777 - I assumed that it was Wade doing the harmonies, but you may be right.
|
| |
@Alucard125 there is a 'making of' video where they discussed the creative and recording process. George started singing as well - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IkaPh6kY5ag
On the live version of 'Sweet Dreams Of Otherness' George also sings the low harmony in the verses
|
| |
George sang a lot of low harmonies live when i saw them last week too. So fucking excited for this record.
|
| |
mistaken information also has a part where george sings a lead melody that the band claims to be the most beautiful moment on the whole album and i am so unbelievably excited to hear that lol
|
| |
good song, favorite single so far
|
| |
I think the production issue most people are probably having are that the vocals are mixed very strangely. Dallas’s voice often feels lower in the mix and more distant than you’d expect based on most productions you hear, unless most of the other instruments have dropped out. Plus the placement of the harmonies in the mix is sometimes odd like they’re being sung in different locations. I think it’s an intentional choice, to kind of give them a stylized, dated, classic rock, live venue type sound and also to avoid having Dallas’s voice dominate the band but I’m not sure it works
|
| |
Production definitely has that "live venue" vibe for sure. I kinda dig it but there's no punch to the instrumentation whatsoever. Songs are still really good tho
|
| |
yeah i think it aesthetically works alright for them and i like these songs a lot regardless but for me the instruments themselves sound worse than the vocal mix. they dont sound terrible just like, they were recorded in a purposefully analog way that makes them sound kind of devoid of presence
|
| |
Interesting, the instruments work better for me for the most part than the vocal mix which I think limits the catharsis you usually get from a Dallas chorus.
It definitely has some stylistic choices you wouldn't necessarily expect from them.
- The drum sound seems to be fairly standard to me but the snare feels more distant, and more like its behind me than I would usually expect rather than out in front, more muted. Cymbals are a lot lower in the mix than you would usually expect.
- Rhythm guitars are more of a fuzz pedal type sound rather than a more saturated sound you'd expect in the genre, and they also don't feel panned hard left/right like usual.
- Lead guitars on the other hand are more saturated than I would have expected from the rhythm guitars, and sometimes sound like they're panned further left or right than the rhythm tracks. Maybe this is meant to be a throwback to their first album where they just had each guy switching between rhythm and lead parts and harmonies and staying on their side, or again meant to feel like a live sound where a lead part wouldn't suddenly pan to the center.
- Bass sounds fine, not super prominent but not buried
- of course everything is drenched in lots of reverb and delay giving it that washed out, live sound
I only listened to these as youtube streams on earbuds though so take it, but those are my first impressions
|
| |
Yeah this song is fucking killer don't get me wrong. I just thought that chime part in the intro was cheesey. So happy to see these dudes back. Great group
|
| |
Plus YouTube streams will never be a good way to judge how a record sounds
|
| |
Actually a great song. Love this one and Reverse the Curse
|
| |
Dude it warms my heart to see these guys back and so obviously happy doing it. Check their performance at lollapalooza Chile a couple months ago. Energy is palpable. Accidents is a classic banger of a song
https://youtu.be/nWGtZ9vlAig
|
| |
I listened to these songs via Spotify on my monitors this morning and the production complaints are fair. A bunch of the harshness and muddiness that I had chalked up to my earbuds and YouTube was actually worse
|
| |
Thanks for that Chile concert link, recording was clean as hell
Chris still an absolute madman live you love to see it
|
| |
They apparently played in Toronto a few weeks ago and did multiple songs from s/t
Nice
|
| |
Can't get over how much I'm loving this song. Officially hyped af for this album.
|
| |
The more I listen to it, the more I like it. The other two songs kick ass too.
|
| |
Nah this aint it
|
| |
It obviously is it. You’re just wrong.
|
| |
