New Origin LP, June 3rd

2022-04-06 by Fernando Alves | 17 Comments
US extreme tech metallers Origin have announced that their upcoming eighth studio album, titled Chaosmos, will be released on June 3rd via Agonia Records (Europe) and Nuclear Blast (Rest of World). The first single, 'Ecophagy', can be streamed below.

"It's our third album with the same lineup," Paul Ryan says. "And I personally feel it's a continuation of who the band is currently. At the start of 2021, people started talking about a new Origin album, and I wasn't sure if the world was literally ready for it due to lockdowns/restrictions. In March, I told myself, 'I will write one song per month until I finish the album.' When it was completed, I sent over what I had written to the rest of the band. From that point forward, our collective alchemy resulted in what you hear on Chaosmos."

Tracklist:
1. Ecophagy
2. Chaosmos
3. Cogito Tamen Non Sum
4. Panoptical
5. Decolonizer
6. Cullscape
7. Nostalgia for Oblivion
8. Heat Death

^origin did archspire first afaic. i did kind of sleep on their non james lee albums buut unparalleled universe was actually pretty tight/overlooked. song sounds veery similar to their early to mid 2000s stuff, which i'm fine w/. one of the most ridiculous live bands i've seen.

ridiculous live agreed, saw them back in the early 2000's and I couldn't comprehend what I was watching. Not really a big fan of them, or really tech death in general, but incredibly impressive band nonetheless

Origin always struck me as the "what metal sounds like to non-metal listeners" band

When the most interesting blurb the band can muster about their new record is that they "wrote a song per month", I am not instilled with much confidence.

"love the corpse style riff at the end"

Song instantly improved at 2:25 agreed

I don’t see why that would be a sentence that indicates anything. Many songwriters or writers in general are more structured and write a certain amount in a day / week / month or whatever measure of time to track progress; and others are more impulsive. What a meaningless criticism
