New Muse LP, August 26th

2022-03-17 by Fernando Alves STAFF | 53 Comments
British rockers Muse have announced that their upcoming ninth album, Will Of The People, will be released on August 26th via Warner Records. The official music video for the new single, 'Compliance', can be seen below.

Directed by Jeremi Durand

Bellamy on the new single: " 'Compliance' is about submission to authoritarian rules and reassuring untruths to be accepted to an in-group. Gangs, governments, demagogues, social media algorithms and religions seduce us during times of vulnerability, creating arbitrary rules and distorted ideas for us to comply with. They sell us comforting myths, telling us only they can explain reality while simultaneously diminishing our freedom, autonomy and independent thought.

We are not just coerced, we are herded, frightened and corralled to produce a daily ‘two minutes of hate’ against an out-group of their choosing and to turn a blind eye to our own internal voice of reason and compassion. They just need our Compliance."

Tracklist:
1. Will Of The People
2. Compliance
3. Liberation
4. Won’t Stand Down
5. Ghosts (How Can I Move On)
6. You Make Me Feel Like It’s Halloween
7. Kill Or Be Killed
8. Verona
9. Euphoria
10. We Are Fucking Fucked

You can also take a sneak peek at the first single, 'Won't Stand Down', below.

Dude don't make a song called "Compliance" and whinge about government control while we're trying to come out of pandemic marred by objectively stupid rightwing contrarians. Optics, Matt.

The absolute truth it is that Johnny not properly stacking up on Steaks original comment almost feels like we are herded, frightened and corralled to produce a daily ‘two minutes of hate’ against an out-group of our choosing.

I don't think the meaning of the song has ANYTHING to do with what you people apparently think it does though..

The funny thing is these Bellamy quotes sound bizarrely intellectual, as I cannot for the life of me get DSO’s out of my mind.

DSO making musicians around the world sound less cringeworthy, they’re truly doing the lord’s work.

And no I didn’t actually listen to this.

Odd and a bit terrible from a band which made 'Knights of Cydonia', MK Ultra and many more refreshing tracks previously.

Vague talk of ‘authoritarianism’ and ‘state control’, without going in to any specifics, just reeks of incoherent libertarianism. Expect to hear lyrics that could have penned by Russell Brand. Matt Bellamy always strikes me as the type of person who dislikes ‘big pharma’ because of their lack of efficacy, not because they monopolise/commodify life saving medicines.

Not sure why the concept is such a cause for concern. Haven't they been mining this exact lyrical theme their entire career?

They've always been conspiracy theorists with generic lyrics. I used to stay for the guitar solos and conviction in his delivery/performance, but the last good solo they laid down was in 2015 and now the lyrics have devolved into the most vague political cliches imaginable. I could write Muse lyrics without even trying: "there's something going on here / yeeeaaaah (falsetto), the time has come / to exit the shadows and reclaim what's ours"...or something.

Lol, 10/10 for the lyrics, but to truly nail the Muse sound you have to dramatically inhale before each line.

"[HYHHEEEHHHH] there's something going on here / yeeeaaaah (falsetto), the time has come / [HHHHYYYEEEHHHH] to exit the shadows and reclaim what's ours"
