The Exquisite Machinery of Netflix.
Count me the fuck in for whatever the hell this is. It’s Netflix’s best metal song
|
| |
Fuck db Weiss
|
| |
Show looks embarrassing lmao
|
| |
It’s written by d.b Weiss, it will no doubt be embarrassing
|
| |
>D.B. Weiss
>Netflix
Oh no
|
| |
I thought the game of thrones dudes were working on that awful idea for a show where the south won the civil war lol
|
| |
I wonder what the cabal has on Tom Morello
|
| |
Wait what's so bad about DB Weiss?
|
| |
You really shouldn't have to ask. Lol
|
| |
What? A band with white, male dudes? Where is the obese black female drummer, the wheelchaired vocalist and the cistrans(non)gbinarypopinerygender..trans..person? I am at shock. Fucking nazis.
|
| |
nobody:
user XyphDryne:
|
| |
looks fucking awful
|
| |
"You really shouldn't have to ask"
I kinda do because I've never heard of him before
|
| |
He was one of the main writers on the Game of Thrones tv show.
|
| |
ah, I see.
|
| |
He was one of the main writers on the Game of Thrones tv show.
and?
|
| |
from what I've read, all the seasons for GOT except the last were adaptations of the novels. There was no book concluding the thing so the writers had to write the final season themselves.
And everyone seem to agree that the final season was dogshit
|
| |
Yup but The show and the books were never the same story.
|
| |
The biggest problem is professionalism, commitment, honesty, not how the show turned out. The show turned out like it did because DB Weiss and the other guy quit on game of thrones and quit on other projects too and screw people over. They screwed Game of thrones over by quitting when supposed to be two more seasons but they wrapped up the whole story very quickly and very shit in one season to make better money with Star Wars which they also quit before even making the trilogy
|
| |
Their best work has been stuff they never even finished and just turned in half assed.
|
| |
So yeah fuck DB Weiss and anything he does I don’t even want to try.
|
| |
and?
|
| |
And just to explain a bit better so you understand a bit more, They took story arcs, characters, and plots from the books…turned it into their own story. People who die early in the books live through the whole tv show. People who die early in the tv show are still alive in the books to this day.
|
| |
Well if we're being fair, the show already was ahead of the books way before that (season 5-6 i believe?), so they had been writing the show for a few seasons and did an okay job at it. They did however completely fail at wrapping it up in the final season.
|
| |
They failed on purpose is the offensive thing.
|
| |
Budgie keep teasing me and I’ll pluck a feather 🪶
|
| |
and?
|
| |
Budgie are you Australian or English?
|
| |
neither thank god !
|
| |
Those are the only kinds of budgie though…
|
| |
so you're bri'ish?
|
| |
ur mom goes to college
|
| |
Did they have to write the most generic metal song?
|
| |
Well they have to get normies to watch it somehow
|
| |
Gotta wonder who netflix thinks will actually watch this tho
Like first off this shit stereotypes metalheads in the same way big bang theory stereotypes nerds or whatever... so the actual niche the show is about is just gonna shit on it
And then second off why would any normies actually care to watch two fictional high school dweebs start a metal band in 2022 on netflix when you can watch like..... literally anything else lmao
|
| |
Or start your own band yourself! 😃
|
| |
Well it sounds like it was written by highschoolers, so good job?
|
| |
Morello executive produced this too lmao
|
| |
so this is a movie or a series?
|
| |
Everything morello does that doesn't involve zach de la rocha or chris cornell is guaranteed to be terribad no matter what medium
|
| |
“ Gotta wonder who netflix thinks will actually watch this tho
Like first off this shit stereotypes metalheads in the same way big bang theory stereotypes nerds or whatever... so the actual niche the show is about is just gonna shit on it”
If you compare it to ‘Big Bang Theory’—a massively watched, commercial success, that’s pretty much your answer re. who Netflix are aiming this at.
|
| |
is there a single instance of metalhead culture being presented in popular media that isnt painfully cringe
|
| |
Idk man I just looked at a list of the top 12 metal head character in pop culture and it seemed it was an awful list.
|
| |
budgie: “is there a single instance of metalhead culture being presented in popular media that isnt painfully cringe”
A deep cut maybe, but there was a character called Chris Coy in ‘Treme’ who was a full-on metalhead, and he was cool and dignified.
|
| |
"its just ur not consistent with the image we're trying to project"
take a look in the mirror u poseur fuk
|
| |
It is rather amazing how cinema can fail so miserably for decades in portraying such large aspects of culture.
|
| |
not really popular media but night of the demons II kinda gets it right
|
| |
“It is rather amazing how cinema can fail so miserably for decades in portraying such large aspects of culture.”
It’s common as it deals with broad strokes (i.e. stereotypes), in order to reach as wide an audience as possible. Challenging presumed norms doesn’t communicate quick enough.
|
| |
But….it’s just so lame….🙁
|
| |
id say moreso that the people working on the media arent exactly fenriz types
|
| |
A bit of both, TBF… doubt it’s mutually exclusive.
|
| |
“is there a single instance of metalhead culture being presented in popular media that isnt painfully cringe”
ever seen airheads brother?
|
| |
“is there a single instance of metalhead culture being presented in popular media that isnt painfully cringe”
Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure
Wayne's World
Heavy Trip
|
| |
This won't be good.
|
| |
This looks like absolute fucking garbage.
I'll watch it.
|
| |
Was thinking the same haha
|
| |
i think the last "metal" media movie i saw was deathgasm and it made me want to drink hydrofluoric acid
so im skippin this
|
| |
Yeah deathgasm was shit. Promising premise just completely wasted, with basically just one funny line in the movie.
"The possessed bodies, they kill all in their path in preparation for Aeloth's ascension on the next blood moon. On the Devil's hour."
"Oh shit, the moon is red tonight. When is the Devil's hour?"
"Three AM."
"Three AM Pacific or Eastern time? Do demons recognize daylight savings?"
You should definitely watch Heavy Trip though. I remember it actually being good and having real charm and love for its subject matter.
|
| |
Idk, does Tenacious D: Pick of Destiny count?
|
| |
It probably should. School of Rock needs a College of Metal sequel.
|
| |
"Yup but The show and the books were never the same story."
The first couple of seasons of the show are at least pretty spot on. I only read the first two books but nothing at all stuck out as being different from the books in the first couple seasons. In fact, I almost felt like I wasted my time reading the first two books because it felt like everything was pretty much exactly the same
|
| |
gonna start a porn subscription service and call it nutflix
|
| |
Is this the what if tv show if Colton and Potsy grew up together? Obviously Colton is the girl.
|
| |
"gonna start a porn subscription service and call it nutflix"
This is actually genius.
I still gotta watch that Lords of Chaos movie, it's not a comedy, but it might as well be.
|
| |
They 100% lost me at "songs written by Tom Morello" Fuck this nonsense.
|
| |
The Dirt is the best at showcasing metalhead culture. The acting, pacing, cinematography, and especially the music were just spectacular to me. I'm glad it was seen by so many in order for the normies to get a glimpse into what we live and breathe m/
|
| |
My life is more This Is Spinal Tap than The Dirt tbh.
|
| |
"gonna start a porn subscription service and call it nutflix"
What are you charging for ad space? Cuz I'm looking to advertise my off-brand fleshlight:
I Can't Believe It's Not Butthole
|
| |
Did anyone watch that Sound of Metal movie? I didn't, but I wondered if that was any good, about the drummer who starts to lose his hearing. Critics seemed to like it.
|
| |
Sound of Metal was an amazing technical exercise, but it spreads its story incredibly thin trying to cover so much plot ground, that the emotional climax comes off kind of rushed and scripted
but im also in the minority on that, people hella liked that one
|
| |
Thanks for the rundown porc. Not all heroes wear capes
|
| |
I'm just here to join in on the "fuck DB Weiss" debate to say
fuck DB Weiss
|
| |
i always get DB Weiss confused with DB Sweeney. I always then get DB Sweeney confused with Peter Horton because DB Sweeney was in a show called Strange Luck and then I confuse that with a show called Brimstone. the name DB does weird things to my synapses. oddly i do not confuse either with DB Cooper
|
| |
Yep. This is a song from a Netflix show about a metal band.
|
| |
Definitely gonna watch this, whatever you guys say. But I doubt this will beat Heavy Trip. That movie is a classic, should've been a cult film by now.
|
| |
nice bass line in the intro
|
| |
>D.B. Weiss
>Netflix
Oh no
x2
|
| |
Ah, yes, ‘Sound of Metal’. I too haven’t seen it, but I can definitely believe it’d lack the common cringe factor associated with genre representation in the media.
|
| |
Sound of Metal was cool - it didn't treat metal or the metal scene as cringe or "other" - there's some interesting criticism from people in the deaf community about how cochlear implants are treated in the film, which was a learning opportunity. Fantastic sound design, realistic acting, and plot beats don't play into tropes, which is refreshing.
Very different movie, but Green Room (2015) is a pretty 'metal' film. Either are probably better than this Netflix film.
|
| |
"ever seen airheads brother?"
yes hyp such a classic
"What? A band with white, male dudes? Where is the obese black female drummer, the wheelchaired vocalist and the cistrans(non)gbinarypopinerygender..trans..person? I am at shock. Fucking nazis."
lmfao so true

Deranged dork detected.
Anyways, this is like the third coming of age metal movie/show about kids in high school in recent years. Come up with something new.
|
| |
I want the origin story of Kraftwerk instead
|
| |
green room is fantastic but it is very clearly punk culture
return of the living dead is prob greatest punk film
|

Fuckin hell the kid in the glasses is that kid from that shit movie The Lodge
|

"Hello. Thank you for insulting me. This is always a reliable indicator for a bright mind. Have a nice day."
XyphDryne shoutboxed me this lol.
|
| |
I will post it later lol
|
| |
wow this thread really got heated
show looks p fun. "you cant say that in america" got me lmao bc so true
also yes last 2 seasons of GOT were trash
|
| |
Looks shit
|
| |
This looked incredibly cringe (from the trailer). Despite loving music, I was shiver a bit when shows/movies centered around music are released. Idk just a personal opinion but it rarely translate well.
This is an aside but since Stranger Things happened everything has to look 80s. tells you how much "creativity" is valued these days.
Okay rant over, carry on
