Kid Rock Attacks Tommy Lee 2007-09-10 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 17 Comments | They've both been inside Pamela Anderson, and now Kid Rock is facing up to six months inside following a punch-up with ex-love rival Tommy Lee.
The rapper was taken into custody shortly after 10 p.m. last night following a clash with drummer Lee in the audience at the VMA Awards in Las Vegas last night. Rock apparently punched Lee twice, before the latter was restrained and removed from the venue.
MTV VJ Sway remembered seeing Rock approach Lee at the post-show, where he was sitting next to rapper P. Diddy (who is also in the habit of being beaten up at awards shows, though by boyband members), and "deck him." Producer Rich Nice had a different take on events, describing Lee as the instigator.
"It looked like Tommy Lee initiated it because Kid Rock was ignoring him," said Nice, who was two tables away. "And Tommy Lee kind of antagonized him. And then when Tommy Lee stood up, it looked a little weird, like 'Yo, what?' When Tommy stands up is when Kid hit him the first time with a backhand. And then Tommy Lee looked like he was trying to get at him to aggressively retaliate and then Kid Rock hits Tommy Lee again — bong. And then security grabs Tommy Lee in a headlock and pulls him off."
At one-time friends and collaborators, the relationship between Lee and Rock deteriorated when Rock (real name Bob Ritchie) began dating, and subsequently married, Tommy's ex-wife Pamela Anderson, who presented an award at last night's ceremony. The pair are now divorced.
Britney Spears also attended the ceremony.
