R.I.P. Biz Markie

2021-07-17 by Brendan Schroer STAFF | 24 Comments
American rapper and DJ Biz Markie, affectionately referred to by fans as "The Biz", has passed away after a long battle with Type 2 Diabetes. He had been hospitalized since April 2020 due to his condition, leading to him going into a diabetic coma in December of that year.

The Biz was best known for his signature hit "Just a Friend", as well as the incorporation of comedy into his songs; this has led to him earning the honorific nickname "The Clown Prince of Hip-Hop". He was successful in several other ventures as well, including being a talented producer, beatboxer, and writer. To this day, his music still appears in several soundtracks including Saints Row IV and the Netflix series Love.

Check out the videos below for the Biz's two biggest singles, "Just a Friend" and "Vapors".

Unfortunately, while the rumors of his death earlier this month weren't correct, this time it was in fact true. R.I.P. :'[

@Emim: How else was I supposed to word it? That's how a lot of these articles have been titled in the past

Not saying it's necessarily wrong, just how it hit me. Looking at the other articles, it does seem to be a common wording.

Left a real impact on music. Can't say that about very many others.
Spring again and vapors are classic tracks.

One of those guys who no one ever seemed to have a single bad word to say about- a real rarity in the music industry. Dude would collaborate with pretty much anybody and always gave it his all, and if that isn't worthy of respect idk what is. Hard RIP
