R.I.P. Biz Markie 2021-07-17 by Brendan Schroer EMERITUS | 24 Comments | American rapper and DJ Biz Markie, affectionately referred to by fans as "The Biz", has passed away after a long battle with Type 2 Diabetes. He had been hospitalized since April 2020 due to his condition, leading to him going into a diabetic coma in December of that year.
The Biz was best known for his signature hit "Just a Friend", as well as the incorporation of comedy into his songs; this has led to him earning the honorific nickname "The Clown Prince of Hip-Hop". He was successful in several other ventures as well, including being a talented producer, beatboxer, and writer. To this day, his music still appears in several soundtracks including Saints Row IV and the Netflix series Love.
