Klaxons win Mercury Prize 2007-09-04 by Iai EMERITUS | 7 Comments | Just like every two-bit critic and his dog predicted, the 2007 Mercury Music Prize has been won by Klaxons. This sees them join a list of previous winners that includes the illustrious likes of Portishead, PJ Harvey, and Pulp. Then again, it also includes Talvin Singh, Ms. Dynamite, Gomez, and M People. Go figure.
The competition included no less than four incredibly annoying accents, two former winners who never realistically had a chance, an album literally NOBODY has heard of, a man who writes and records in a bedroom just up the road from me, and a woman who last week was named the biggest cokehead of all time by no less an authority than Courtney Love. So congratulations Klaxons - you deserved it!
The Mercury panel has yet to announce whether or not next year's list of nominees will be as pandering to the NME.

They were the best of the nominees... so well done, I guess...
| | | Meh, I thought Jamie T would walk away with that one. Or Winehouse. But the Klaxons are aite anyway, they were good at Reading.
| | | Gee, didn't see this coming. But Kudos anyway, these guys are hella fun.
| | | you're all aware that Klaxons were actually outsiders to win yeah?
EVERYONE was saying Bat for Lashes, Winehouse, Arctic Monkeys or Jamie T.
IMO, Klaxons were the only band that deserve it (and even their album isn't that amazing) and I wasn't expecting them to win (genuinely) so I'm really pleased for them.
I can't help but think "Is this really the best we can do?" british music is in crisis.
| | | Crap band. Fionn Regan was good when I saw him, he was more worth than Klaxons as far as I'm concerned.
| | | Dethscreamingsheep what were u doing watchign the klaxons at reading. The pumpkins were on then!
But ye i think jamie t should of won. Not a big fan of him but hes better than the klaxons.
| | | I think the Klaxons are actually pretty crappy.
