Because you saw it on fox news or cnn? A 15 second clip surfaces which aligns with a person's biases and that's it for them, they don't need any more context about the incident or what led up to it. I get it too - like why would you want to seek out something that contradicts your narrative. It's shortsighted tho. We need to see legislative change but it ultimately comes down to people. People need to be more receptive to open discussions about things and stop attacking each other, or it'll just stay the same forever

It ignores that the riots more often than not rose out of the fact that the cops continuously instigated violence at the protests. Riots in Chicago didn't start until the cops started tossing teargas, assaulting protestors, and trapping them in bottlenecks when they raised the bridges and funneled them down roads that they were still teargassing.

Of fucking course there'd be riots in response to that, and justified ones. The bipartisan condemnation of rioting is proof that rioting inherently has political power, and unilaterally condemning it across all sides is intellectually dishonest. Rioting is only as unjustified as the cause it is done in the name of.

There are pros and cons to it. I think education and funding are important, but there needs to be accountability. I had a professor who was literally charging students $30 a piece to buy a study guide with all the answers to the exams. If you didn't pay, you wouldn't be able to use the exact verbiage he wanted and thus do poorly on the test. That's just one example. I think different perspectives should be welcome regardless.
