Ensiferum debut new song

Finnish folk metallers Ensiferum are currently streaming 'Rum Women Victory', the first single taken from their upcoming new album Thalassic, out July 10th via Metal Blade Records. The album was recorded and produced in Petrax and Sonic Pump studios by Janne Joutsenniemi.

Stream 'Rum Women Victory' official lyric video here:

Metal Blade states: "Ensiferum are a true powerhouse when it comes to folk-inspired melodic death metal, something they hammer home more resolutely than ever with eighth full-length Thalassic. The title translating from ancient Greek as "of or relating to seas", it’s a suitably huge and wide-ranging collection that incorporates orchestrations and traditional folk instrumentation alongside the roaring guitars, bass, and drums." Bassist/vocalist Sami Hinkka adds: "I think we managed to take another step ahead musically and we also utilized the best parts of our old sound. There are lots of Ensiferum‘s trademarks: beautiful folkish melodies, ass-kicking riffs, a nice mix of different vocals and great singalong choruses."

Thalassic tracklist:

1. Seafarer's Dream
2. Rum, Women, Victory
3. Andromeda
4. The Defence of the Sampo
5. Run from the Crushing Tide
6. For Sirens
7. One with the Sea
8. Midsummer Magic
9. Cold Northland (Väinämöinen Part III

I don't think I've heard anything from them since Victory Songs, but one of these days I'm gonna have to take a peek at From Afar.

from afar is their best album joint with s/t

this is fucking awful like everything unsung heroes onwards

I don't know Noc, they're definitely pagan, have plenty of folk elements, and there's a party in my pants whenever I listen to them…

dumbasses who wear thor's hammer pendants and think drinking red stripe out of a fake horn and listening to bad melodeath is paying tribute to the norse gods

sounds like they're trying to break into that Korpiklaani demographic instead of doing what they were originally good at. I saw them back in December and idek if they played any newer songs, mostly just first four albums stuff.

Funny I never actually met a Korpiklaani fan yet they seem to do quite well and attract plenty of crowd

Not great but better than I expected. At least it has some energy - sounds more like Bodom meets Alestorm. Which... eh... but at least fun.

Steady slow decline from S/T to From Afar, and everything after that until now has been boring as fuck.
