This is fucking trash.
| |
This is basically Simple Creatures and just as bad
| |
eh
it’s obviously not good but i kinda can’t get how people are this mad at it considering both cali and neighborhoods have a few way worse songs (and this addiction being real)
that said this isn’t a good indicator of the new album and is definitely not something i want matt skiba to be a part of but if this’ll pay the bills enough to get another ittc, then fine i guess
| |
also the production is dreadful and kills most potentially redeeming aspects of the song like the vocal line isn’t necesarily bad but it sounds like they’re trying to put matt and mark through like distorted vocal filters to make them sound more raw but considering the more electronic and pop influenced instrumental it really really clashes, with the effects on the title of the song in the chorus definitely being the worst offender
| |
John Feldman and old age has killed blink
| |
"Production credits include John Feldman, Pharrell Williams"
"Pharrell Williams"
NO
| |
Yeah, Pharrell is DEFINTELY the one to worry about here and not John fucking Feldman
| |
Don't know why I came to this song thinking it was going to be anything close to pre-Neighborhoods. Whatever...
| |
They are getting irrelevant and I wish Mark and Travis stopped shitting on their legacy.
| |
What's even crazier is that Tom DeLonge said he likes this:
https://www.altpress.com/news/tom-delonge-blink-182-shoutout/
| |
That was awful. Generic and boring af. As I predicted at the tour announcement: basically this band is dead.
And Tom is a lunatic, I couldn't care less if he likes it or not.
| |
The worst song on Neighorhoods >
And Tom just shouted this out. Probably because whenever he mentions Blink, fans go wild and it draws more attention to his own shit
| |
nah this>love is dangerous doesn’t say much tho lmao
| |
Im not really into it but I don't get why it's all that offensively bad if you're already into Blink and/or pop punk lmao
| |
I always liked Love Is Dangerous and I still do tbh. The lyrics aren't good, but these lyrics are even worse. For some reason the lyrics on all this 'new' material piss me off so much that I can barely enjoy the music
| |
“nah this>love is dangerous doesn’t say much tho lmao”
You take that back
| |
I wanna see some naked duuudes
That’s why I built this pooool
| |
And yeah I’ll second that the lyrics are what keep me from enjoying this. Same with California, any good melodies are ruined by the fact that the lyrics are painfully bad.
| |
There are definitely some elements to like in this and California, but the bad just outways the good for me. I'm at least glad this song does not contain the guitar riff that 90% of California is based on. I guess that's progress
| |
I must say I like this more than a big portion of California though. It's suprisingly growing on me a bit
| |
lyrics are awful but easier to tune out than a lot of calis bc the vocals sound a lot less clear which is also a huge fucking problem but eh
like this isn’t good don’t get me wrong it’s a generous 2/5 song but this is the bottom of the barrel? really? not good old days/california title track/she’s out of her mind/sober (or to extend to other projects, some origins of fire/clever love/dry your eyes/rebel girl/draculina/eating me alive/piss and vinegar)...?
| |
I’m actually scared to listen to this.
| |
yea half of california proper is like the same fucking song note for note all with the same shitty discount adams song riff
| |
This was kind of alright? Thing is, it has me a bit worried. "Bored to Death" was the first track they released for "California" back in 2016, and the song was not only a solid single - but a good representation for what the rest of the album was going to offer. If this track is supposed to evoke the same idea, then I'm unsure if I'll like their upcoming album.
| |

"John Feldman and old age has killed blink"
This.
| |
"like this isn’t good don’t get me wrong it’s a generous 2/5 song but this is the bottom of the barrel? really? not good old days/california title track/she’s out of her mind/sober (or to extend to other projects, some origins of fire/clever love/dry your eyes/rebel girl/draculina/eating me alive/piss and vinegar)...?"
I actually prefer quite a bit of these over this song: good old days, clever love, dry your eyes, rebel girl. I happened to listen to Dry Your Eyes before reading this comment and was actually really enjoying it. Yeah it's Everything's Magic 2 but fuck it
| |
"John Feldman and old age has killed blink"
The old age bit reminds me of a quote from The Needle Drop that suprisingly enough perfectly encapsulates my feelings on all of Blink's new material "the issue is not that Blink-182 is too old for this shit, the thing is that they sound too old for this shit"
| |
was jamming dude ranch the other day. that shit still jams.
fuck this shit.
| |
jesus christ
why does every fucking pop song sound the exact same in 2019
fuck off mark
| |
Track was alright right up until the chorus, which is a straight-up dud. Like, where's the fucking guitar in this?
Also, Feldmann needs to stop getting involved with every band that even remotely sounds like Blink. I pray he doesn't produce Neck Deep's 4th album.
| |
at least he didn’t off of cali work with trio on their newest that was absolutely my biggest fear regarding him
| |
Nooooo don’t say that Chuckles. If I hear any “WOAH OAAH’s” I’m gonna be pissed
| |
i do my best to try and defend modern blink but they are making it REALLY FUCK DIFFICULT i must say
| |
And I thought they sounded old on the last record.
| |
Well... I listened to it. Jesus fucking Christ.
| |
shouldnt have done it mate
| |
How can the same guy who wrote “I’m sick with apprehension, I’m crippled from exhaustion, and I dread the moment when you finally come to kill me” in his late 20’s write... THIS in his fucking 40’s? This some Nickelodeon ass shit.
| |
production is atrocious, songwriting isn't much better
| |
it's been 8 years since they came back with Neighborhoods which was a comeback from the 8y/o s/t
I would've abandoned them long ago
| |
Music industry should introduce the "JF"-label for every song and record that Fieldman was involved in so people know what to avoid or bury.
| |
song is alright, but come on Skiba, the last alk3 LP was amazing, what the fuck you doing this shit for? John Feldman needs to quit the game, blink needs to go back and listen to Enema and S/T and work out what they used to be great at. I don't even think the lack of quality has anything to do with Toms absence, this must be down to Feldman
| |
yikes
| |

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
which is honestly a good thing bc matts writing on the last few trio albums before ittc reeked of "hey we gotta do whatll commercially perform the best for us"

Man, I don't know if anyone else feels this way, but listening to the direction that John Fieldman has taken his career actually tarnishes listening to his old stuff.
It seems like the dude basically rode the pop punk wave not because he actually gave a shit about the style, but because it was make money. Which blows because early Goldfinger has some of my favorite pop-punk stuff on it.
Yeah, I know it's stupid to be mad that the dude just wants money, but I guess it shits on the little snippet of punk that was in his music in the first place.
| |
The song in general ain't great but that is genuinely one of the worst hooks I've ever heard.
| |
this is the most unabashed zero energy money grab attempt single ever yeah
given the success of blink as a whole the greed is that much more distasteful
| |
Sounds like a band trying to be Blink 182 but failing miserably.
| |
They wrote 40 songs and decided this was one of the ones they should go with?
It's okay up until the chorus hits, but man that chorus is bad.
| |
"any good melodies are ruined by the fact that the lyrics are painfully bad."
you say that as if this song has a good melody
| |
They wrote 40 songs and decided this was one of the ones they should go with?

Agreed. The chorus sounds like Imagine Dragons — literally sounds like one of their songs. Don’t know the name and proud of it.
| |
6/8 promised something so much better than this. The chorus is totally Imagine Dragons esq. Fuck this.
| |
| |
BLINK ONE EIGHTY POOP
| |
yuck.
yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.
| |
It's okay up until the chorus hits, but man that chorus is bad. [2]
| |
For some reason the verses remind me of that Lower Your Expectations song by Bo Burnham
| |
iIts very shit...
| |
I like listening to Barker's chops over these boring ass pop-rock melodies
| |
Yeah if you drown out literally everything except Travis it’s not too terrible.
| |
"How can the same guy who wrote “I’m sick with apprehension, I’m crippled from exhaustion, and I dread the moment when you finally come to kill me” in his late 20’s write... THIS in his fucking 40’s? This some Nickelodeon ass shit."
I agree with this so hard. Lyrics for this new single are such trash. Mark is fastly approaching 40 presumably writing about being in his 20's. Yet, somehow, sounds like he's like 14 trying to write his first song ever... Hard to believe this is the same band that had a Robert Smith feature...
I mean, Jesus Christ...
It says A LOT that I would rather listen to the new AVA song that this trash ever again,,,
| |
how does barker have vocal chops? he sounds painfully mediocre at best
| |
not saying much here but rebel girl is definitely worse than this
| |
"Music industry should introduce the "JF"-label for every song and record that Fieldman was involved in so people know what to avoid or bury."
ye then everyone complaining itt would realise he didn't touch this song lol
@Scoop Travis Barker is the drummer
| |
" Mark is fastly approaching 40 presumably writing about being in his 20's."
Approaching 40? Dude's 47.
| |
...this is so good.
| |
How come everything bad ever always has two staffers defending it
| |
...this is so bad.
| |
if the world has to put up with this as a sacrifice for the classic that was Dude Ranch, i'm ok with that
| |
Dunnnnpeallllll
| |
sup Reichypoo. I hear the Tenderloin is getting gentrified....dark times indeed
| |
"How come everything bad ever always has two staffers defending it"
whatever trash Taylor Swift drops next will prolly have three-four staffers defending it so consider this me tipping the scales
| |
| |
that's by far the worst era of AVA tho
| |
"How come everything bad ever always has two staffers defending it"
contrary opinions get noticed
| |
I hate to say it but this band should have called it after their self-titled. I'd take more +44 or even Boxcar Racer instead.
| |
hahahahahhaa
| |
Nah, the Love era of AVA is hands down the worst. Love pt II is the most bland thing they've put out
| |
oh my
| |
honestly if they made an album that consisted of songs like this it would as a whole be better than california
being total shit is better than pissing all over your legacy with a cheap imitation of what made you good back in the early 2000s
| |
Right?
| |
At least the new Get Up Kids album is good...
| |
doubtful but i'll bite my tongue until i check i guess
| |
blame it on my youth?
mark make big oof...
| |
| |
And Boxcar was best
| |
Who would've thought that Tom would be the one ending up with a semblance of musical integrity and still making good music?
| |
why is musical integrity such a big phrase for blink fans, like is that really what you come looking for from the band who wrote Depends
| |
also how does rebel girl have an ounce of musical integrity in it
| |
Lol agreed Rowan lets not forget about the beauty of When You Fucked Grandpa
| |
| |
rebel girl was crap too. but this is worse....
| |
| |
I didn't even know dogs eating dogs existed. It's pretty good.
This track however, blows
| |
Rebel Girl is good, The Dream Walker is great and the Chasing Shadows EP is pretty good too. The man has made solid stuff while blink has made absolute horseshit.
| |
if you wanna complain comparing this to stuff in other recent blink related projects instead of looking at toms shitty and honestly even worse new track just listen to last years fucking incredible alkaline trio album that only solidifies that matt is easily the better songwriter between the three of them and only here to pay the bills
| |
I miss when Pharrell spat fire and produced some of the most forward thinking beats of the century
| |
Generational Divide is probably the best track they've released in years, really brings back the Dude Ranch / Cheshire Cat feels. They need to just put out a straightforward no-frills skatepunk EP or album and it'd be great.
