Just want to throw this out there for motivation:
-If you have an interest, apply. It's not like you have anything to lose.
-If you get passed over it's not a personal slight, and it does not mean you're "rejected". I got passed over for contrib in 2010, for example, then "ghost promoted" at the end of the year. Sometimes you just have to be persistent.
-Lastly: academy made staff, so anyone can.

Interesting question. I was told I was the contrib pick back in 13’ (one thing if it’s true or not) but generally the staff get the choice system. I haven’t heard of it happening since. Weirder things have happened.
