German post metal band, The Ocean have finally premiered new music from their upcoming album, Phanerozoic I: Palaeozoic. 'Permian: The Great Dying' is featured on the first part of the two Phanerozoic LPs the band will release on November 2 and sometime in 2020, respectively. They will focus on the current geologic eon, acting as a sequel to 2007's Precambrian.

'Permian: The Great Dying' can be listened to below:

The Ocean have also announced the first European leg of the Phanerozoic Tour. The currently confirmed dates can be found at the following link: http://www.songkick.com/artists/331451-ocean

As long as this release is enough to stand alone on its own I’m fine waiting till 2020.

Lol at including “finally” in the opening sentence. Same bro same

Not too shabby at all. I wonder how close the rest of the record sounds to this.

I was hoping to see them during Summer Slaughter Festival several years back, but the drummer got gout and couldn't perform that night.

At least we're finally getting new music!

I'm 2/3 in the song and it feels like there's too much singing the whole time and not a lot of progression, hoping for some epic climax

edit: eh it was ok. still hyped for the album

As much as I try to like their newer material, yeah the vocalist they have now just has never quite been as good as the other two they used to have. And the heaviness oh how I miss it. At least on Pelagial a bit of that returned but his vocals were still bleh

Gonna miss their old drummer, he was amazing, but the new one seems to be fitting in just fine.

yeah Luc had great creative feel on songs like The Origin of Species and Let Them Believe, but Seidel's going to fit just fine.

Nothing since Precambrian has really clicked for me with these guys, vocals just sound too buttrocky. But I did enjoy this and the cleans didn’t get into that territory much so I’ll give this a shot.

This was really underwhelming... I am really disappointed, especially after Robin told me they would go for a Precambrian sound on the new one. Then again that was 3 years ago.

Hmmm, quite alright, but is the static in the final seconds intentional?

im sure its intentional

Yeah think so too. Does not affect the vocals so it almost has to be. Weird choice, not sure how I feel about that.

lol its just a few seconds and its pretty normal to have a sound decay effect in this type of music

Ha, definitely true, I'm nitpicking! It starts earlier though, at 8.55, does not fit the song imo

Dang dudes, I quite enjoyed this one. Already stuck in my head.

I imagine the rest of the album will have more variety, this is just one of their more post-metal-leaning tracks.

@flugmorph I don't think so. Listen carefully, you can hear it around the tree minute mark as well. Sounds like it's coming from the bass drum pedal or something, I've heard a similar creak from mine

This keeps getting better and better. Though I do find it odd that their first single is the album closer. It certainly feels like one.
