Swans Solo Tour/Album

2018-08-21 by robotmagician | 15 Comments
Fresh off the release of the remastered Soundtracks for the Blind, Michael Gira has announced a short solo Swans tour. The 5 date run of shows will feature songs from the, as of yet untitled, 15th Swans album. The tracklist features a string of small notes, as well as a tentative March 2019 recording date.

Along with the album title, Gira’s bandmates for the recordings have not been announced since the dissolution of the previous iteration of the band.

Perhaps most surprisingly, the new album will feature a re-recorded and re-arranged “God Damn the Sun” from 1989’s The Burning World, the band’s only major label release. Gira has been openly critical of his performance on the album, and it was a critically mediocre, commercial failure.

The tour dates, as well as the track names/notes can be viewed here: m.facebook.com/SwansOfficial/photos/a.487755361977/10157700493271978/?type=3

I’m excited for new music, interesting to see what we’ll be getting in terms of sound and length. God Damn the Sun being re-recorded is exciting - I personally really enjoy the burning world, and god damn the sun is a gem, but it’ll be great to hear a new take on it

I admire that he's not afraid to tear down what works and start fresh. It helps avoid stagnation but it takes balls.

Not a fan of The Burning World but "God Damn the Sun" is a masterpiece and it certainly deserves a re-recording. Hyped.

So wonderful to hear he's still doing his thing. I hope he condenses his style a bit more though, there is only so much patience I have and the 20 minute songs got a little ridiculous and draggy on the last album.
