Lost Coltrane LP Unearthed

2018-06-10 by butcherboy | 22 Comments
Impulse! Records, the legendary jazz imprint has announced the release of a lost LP by the John Coltrane Quartet. The album titled "Both Directions at Once: The Lost Album" was recorded in the Spring of 1963, two years before "A Love Supreme," and then shelved for decades, until Coltrane's copy of the recording session was discovered by the estate of his first wife. The seven previously-unheard tracks will finally see the light of day on June 29th.

i'm always skeptical about these "lost albums" and other crap thats been "unearthed" from some archive. often feels like a marketing ploy to give some fairly unremarkable old unreleased recordings a sense of mysticism, y'know? as uni says, there could be a good reason why the artist didnt want ppl to hear this record at the time. like a dead artists' executors or some label exec knows better than the artist regarding their own material and whether or not it should actually make it to the shelves.

but uhhh im intrigued anyway so i guess i'll listen to this when it comes out

^ Kanye actually features on this one. Somehow. Despite the decade difference.
