First three 1349 albums rip hard as fuck, Hellfire especially. Revelations and Demonoir were bad, but they redeemed themselves with Massive Cauldron of Chaos.

I'm not sure why 1349 were brought up at all, considering they and Watain sound nothing alike, but nevertheless they are far superior to Watain's trite bullshit.

Yeah, Hellfire and Beyond the Apocalypse shit all over Shatstain (bad Watain pun). Like, it's not even a genuine contest, and I don't even mind Watain that much. Sure, Revelations was a disappointment but that doesn't take away from their previous work. IMO even Liberation beats any whole album I've heard from Watain, though I've only heard 3 of their albums.

Song rules, it’s nice to hear them go back to a more “traditional” bm sound although I woulda preferred more Hammerheart-style songs after The Wild Hunt. Either way this album will rule.

I think some people take issue with the band’s over-the-top image and ideals while they make pretty standard black metal, but that’s just a guess. I used to hate them but my mind turned around when I heard their Bathory worship on the last album and I got super into it. I revisited their older stuff and realised I was overly negative towards them in the past for no real reason. They’re pretty good. And after seeing a lot of their support in the underground and general dedication to metal through all its eras, I can appreciate their attitude and how they fit with the “scene”. Cool band, cool guys.
